An old stone house, newly and tastefully renovated over four floors, in too-die-for cute Mala Rudina, a tiny village at the end of the track, 3 kilometers from Stari Grad. It's a 10 minute walk thru ancient olive trees and drystone walls to a charming little secret cove, with endless possibilities for repose and recreation. We bought it several years ago, and while we've always lent it to friends, we're now renting it out for the first time. We hope to welcome you soon!
The space
Our house is for those who enjoy simple, informal, communal country living, and who enjoy spending time outdoors in the courtyard, in our secret cove and further afield. It’s not posh, and you won’t find any chrome, glass or luxurious touches; the main materials are stone and wood. The open-plan bedrooms and the wooden floors don’t offer a lot of privacy, but they do offer a lot of fun and togetherness. The house works for three families, but it’s probably better for two, maybe with a set of grandparents in tow, or perhaps for four couples … or just a big group of friends. (If you're an extra big or extra small group, or if you're way off season, please let us know beforehand and we can discuss price.) There’s a grilling area in the courtyard, a full kitchen on the ground floor with everything you'll need (ice-maker, blender, immersion blender, pasta maker, icecream maker, etc.), a separate freezer and a wine fridge. There's a second smaller kitchen with a fridge and second washing machine in the attic flat. There are three bathrooms and there is air-conditioning in every room.
The house is hundreds of years old, with meter-thick stone walls that keep it cool even in the hottest days of August, and it has been built and rebuilt many times over. If you look closely at the façade, you can see where it’s been added to and modified over the centuries. As this is the first season we’ll be renting it after our own rebuild, you’re sure to find plenty of mistakes and you may have a gripe or two. We’ll do our best to sort those out on the spot, but we’re confident they won't be anything more than the minor manageable teething pains of an old house reborn. On the plus side, everything other than the fridge on the ground floor is brand spanking new. In any event, some of the known issues (pleeease don’t mention the placement of the kitchen faucet on the ground floor ..!) will be resolved next year, when we hope you’ll come back to see that we’ve listened to your suggestions as well as made some new changes and improvements of our own.
All of the windows look out across the picture-book gorgeous Hvar island landscape and the idyllic village of Mala Rudina. The higher floors have sea views to Rudina’s Duboka bay, over the Kabal peninsula and to the north across to the island of Brac. The most awe-inspiring views are those to the west, from the French windows in the attic; we are the tallest house in the village, and so have the only place where you can drink your sundowners while watching the sun set into the pristine Adriatic waters beyond Stari Grad bay. The windows themselves are clad in supremely unattractive white PVC-clad frames, but happily you’ll be spending your time looking out of them rather than at them.
Guest access
The whole house and all the sports equipment (bicycles, paddleboards, windsurfers, kayaks, snorkeling gear, etc ...) is yours to use. Use of the jeep by special arrangement only.
Other things to note
We definitely prefer weekend to weekend. But we're pretty flexible, so let us know if you need a mid-week arrival or departure. Off-season, we can also do rentals shorter than 7 nights. And finally, if you're coming with more than 12 people or less than 8, please let us know beforehand so that we can negotiate a workable price ...
