We stayed at the Milo Inn in Gulfport for a long Valentine's weekend. We enjoyed being in the laid back/artsy community of Gulfport – felt like a world away from downtown St. Pete’s, yet only a 10-15 minute drive. The area has been hit by hurricanes in the past year, and you can feel an energy in the community as it repairs the damage. There was a fun Gulfport night market festival while we were there with musicians and street vendors (made it a little harder to park right in front of the Inn, but was totally worth it for the lively community atmosphere.) The Inn/apartment is located in the back above an art gallery. Both the gallery and the apartment are owned by August Vernon, who is a super-nice guy who takes a personal interest that you enjoy his town. He showed us around when we first arrived, made restaurant recommendations and dropped everything to bring us towels, umbrellas and beach chairs during the weekend. The apartment is decorated in a "beachy" distressed style that works in concert with the area (with a comfortable bed.) We found everything worked as advertised, Vernon was a responsive host and we had a comfortable, enjoyable stay.
