The Bressmer at Bressmer-Baker House is a Lincoln-Era National Historical Landmark Home from 1853 in Springfield, Illinois. Located in Old Aristocracy Hill in prime Downtown Springfield, Illinois just off Route 66, just a few blocks from Abraham Lincoln's Home, The Presidential Library, The Illinois State Capitol, The Dana Thomas House, and much more!
This Queen Anne Victorian home was initially purchased by John Bressmer and remodeled by the architect who built the Illinois Governor's Mansion just down the street. Bressmer would grow to be a huge success as a merchant in Springfield. Anyone who was anyone wanted to dress in their Sunday best and be seen at "Bressmer's" downtown. After the department store burned to the ground in the largest fire in Springfield's history, it was revived and re-launched with the first escalator in Illinois.
