DESIGN AND DECOR
Summers House features Mexican paver tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and massive native stone fireplace. The striking fireplace was constructed from cobblestones left behind when quarries on the property provided stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Moss covered boulders sculpt the land. Tumbling historic stonewalls built by Chinese laborers during the 19th century have been re-stacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property also provide reminders of the past.
Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, and the home’s natural cedar walls. The house is framed with exposed posts and beams. A large 18th Century European dining table comfortably seats guests. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a part of the family for more than sixty years, has been restored and tuned.
Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six or seven. The master bedroom boasts an extremely comfortable king bed, and large walk-in shower. The two bedrooms that once housed the Summers children, feature queen beds and share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom includes a private sink and vanity.
An enormous deck, with a jarrah wood outdoor dining table, spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpais, the San Francisco Bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Views can be enjoyed from the living and dining areas as well. Sunsets are breathtaking.
