Our room was nice and as advertised. The second night of our stay there was no parking available on the premises and we had to figure out parking away from the property. When we got to our room, we found out we did not receive any housekeeping services. The room was damp from our towels from earlier that morning. Will not return to this property.

Parking is down hidden alleyway street so if driving at night go slow and look carefully! Overall, a wonderful experience and beautiful little place around the heart of downtown!

Loved the fact that this property has so much history. The original person who built it is a distant cousin of Abraham Lincoln, it was originally built in 1871, oldest and longest running hotel in California. Renovated, yet maintained its beauty.

The good: friendly, accommodating staff, clean, well kept landscaping and lots of places to sit outside. It is close enough to State Street to walk. Area for improvement: a bit dated with beds and chairs in the room not being really comfortable, no shampoo/conditioner in the room, no heat (they brought a heater) and doesn’t feel very secure. I think my mom would really enjoy this place but for the price it probably isn’t somewhere I’d stay again.

Historical yet disappointing
The hotel as a whole was pretty run down. It has an authentic historic feel and with additional investment it has the potential to be a remarkable destination and stay while in Santa Barbara.

Overall the experience at the Upham was satisfactory; the staff, the lobby, the grounds and the happy hour all added to the experience. However, given the price ($500) for one night, the room was extremely small, the air conditioner was poor, the carpeting was stained, there was no television signal, the bedding/bath linens were only mediocre and the hallway carpeting was filthy. Unfortunately, with all the other options in Santa Barbara, we won’t be returning to this property.
