About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Casa Madera del playa

Surf. Eat. Sleep. Repeat!

Relax on the beach with us. At Casa Madera you are only steps away from sand and surf! Enjoy our beachside pool and let your cares wash away. Our quiet beach has miles of potential. Enjoy the Nica lifestyle while our staff serve you and your guests. ¡Estamos en vivo!

In addition to private vacations, we also have the potential for small weddings, quinseaneras, birthday parties, as well as work, yoga, and surf retreats. Just inquire about options and pricing.

The Beach House

Casa Madera is comprised of 2 fully airconditioned houses, both included in your rental. There are multiple bedrooms in each house (sleeping up to 10 people), as well as common living spaces indoors and out. This makes multi-family vacations a great option.

The main house is two floors. Upstairs you’ll find a master bedroom with a king bed, ensuite bathroom, and a private balcony overlooking the beautiful ocean; a second bedroom with 2 double beds, one single bed, and ensuite; and a living room with futon bed and hammocks. On the lower level, you’ll find the kitchen and family room.

The second house, The Casita, has 2 bedrooms – one with a queen bed and one with a set of bunk beds and single bed – and bathroom.

Casa Madera is the perfect place to relax outside all day long. Enjoy the outdoor patio and kitchen and bar, as well as the private pool.

Surfing

Enjoy a great surf spot out front, all to yourself. Lefts and longer rights are out front off the rock reef. Know your limits. Waves can get heavy at times, though not life-threatening, as some breaks in Nica are. (But good news – if you’re down for big breaks, we can take you there on a day trip!)

Fishing

Fishing off the beach is possible, and there’s also a fishing pier nearby in Masachapa, which is only 2 miles away.

Transportation

We recommend renting a car while you’re at Casa Madera (get a 4x4 if you can!), as it will give you the flexibility to explore this beautiful country. If you don’t want to rent a car, then the bus is a good option. There is a local bus stop nearby that will take you to Managua and beyond.

On-Site Security & Service

You’ll notice a 3rd small casita on our property. That’s where Freddy, our caretaker lives. Freddy is on-site throughout your stay, providing 24hr security as well as assisting with answering any questions you may have or assisting with anything else you might need.

Make your trip even better:
Equipment Rentals:
Surfboards $20/day
Fishing poles 10$/day

On-Site Authentic Nicaraguan Cooking:

Truly relax and enjoy your vacation by letting us cook for you. Jayme, our on-site chef, has trained and worked as a professional 5-star resort chef. Whether you’re interested in experiencing traditional Nicaraguan favorites, or you’re craving flavors of home, Jayme can serve it up.

Pricing: You purchase the groceries, and Jayme will do the cooking for $10 per mealtime.

Private Excursions:

We offer private excursions to a variety of local places of interest:
· Secret Surf Spots
· Picnic at a Fruit Farm in Rivas.
· Relax by the lake at Lake Cocibolca and enjoy stunning views of Ometempe Volcanic island.
· View Petroglyphs in a nearby cave.
· Explore colonial cities like Leon and Granada.
· Discover a local coffee plantation.

If you want to explore on your own, we can point you in the right direction – but if you have a rental car and want the full local experience, we can take you on a private tour. Let us drive you to these destinations so you can just relax and enjoy.

Excursion packages can be created based on your interests. Let us know what you’re interested in, and we can discuss pricing.

What’s Nearby?

There are many restaurants, bars, beaches, and other amenities close by.

Pochomil Beach (20min walk)
A 20-minute walk north on the beach will get you to the heart of Pochomil, where you will find beach restaurants under the shade of ranchos. Pochomil has great surf, too: big, wide beach break with shallow entry with an outside reef that breaks on all swells.

Masachapa (30-45min walk)
In Masachapa you can find a medical clinic, many pharmacies, fruit and vegetable stands, a gas station, an ice cream shop, dance classes, barber shops, beauty parlors, tattoo parlors, and second-hand clothes stores for shopping at bargain prices. You can also find many little grocery stores (pulperías), each a little different, and fritanga stands with local BBQ foods and Nica enchiladas.

Masachapa has something for everyone. Watch awesome sunsets at the river mouth. Feel the vibe and catch the Masachapa Tiburones play soccer at the field for semi-pro league. Visit Amore e Caffe for evening coffee, espresso, fast food, desserts, and frappes. Go to the fish markets – Nica style – right on the beach, and get fresh fish off the boats, where you’ll find an incredible assortment of fresh fish and shellfish at good prices. (Tip: I wouldn’t try to bargain too much there.) Rancho Ebeneezer Restaurante has fantastic fish and soup right on the beach with a helpful staff. Check out La Barra night club on the weekends, Mayalon Bar, and Bar Kilomba – it’s right on the beach at the pier, and offers cold beer and loud music!

Tips for Traveling to Nicaragua:

Money:
Most business and venders will accept US cash. If you’re using US cash, make sure all bills are in perfect condition: no tares or ink. $20 bills and smaller are best as changing is tough.

Driving:
Drive slowly – the roads are public, and livestock have the right of way. Watch out for cattle, horses, pigs, and chickens crossing the road. Also be careful of kids on bikes with no lights as well as adults on motorcycles with no lights. Use common sense when parking, and make sure you lock doors, roll up windows, and close in mirrors. (Some places have an old local man or woman watch your car for 20-30 cordoba )

Attitude:
A smile goes a long way. Try to speak Spanish even if you’re not fluent – it will get you more respect and laughter! Bring a baseball, glove, and bat, and get a game going on the beach.

Come on down – Nicaragua is waiting.

A 10 out of 10!
This property could not have been more perfect for us! We loved it from the moment we drove through the gates and parked. Right away, you are facing the house, the pool and the Pacific Ocean -- all just steps away! We were immediately caught up in that beautiful view! The house was extremely clean and was 100% ready for our arrival. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Freddy and Jayme, who are the most WONDERFUL caretakers of the property. They met us with welcoming smiles, showed us around the house and were there to answer any questions we had. Throughout our stay, they were there to assist. In fact, each morning before we were up, Freddy was out cleaning the pool for us! I cannot say enough about these two awesome people! The pool was large, clean and simply heavenly. With the beach and ocean being just steps away, it was nice to be able to go back and forth between the pool and the ocean at our leisure. They have a really nice outdoor shower to rinse off the sand before stepping back into the pool. We really felt like we had the entire Pochomil Viejo beach to ourselves most of the time -- it was quiet and so peaceful! We just loved it. The landscaping is gorgeous with flowers blooming and big swaying palm trees - making it feel like you are at a top-notch resort! There is a big outdoor kitchen and bbq which we utilized and that worked out really well. We also drove back into Pochomil and Masachapa, where we were able to take in the local restaurants and bars right on beach. The owner, Paul, was very accommodating and responsive to our questions about the property before our trip down to Nicaragua and was so nice to check in with us once we arrived to make sure all was good. I can surely say that our stay at Casa Madera was the highlight of our trip to Nicaragua and that we would not hesitate to book there again! Thank you, Casa Madera, for the hospitality! A 10 out of 10 for sure!

Beautiful sea view.
We really enjoyed our stay, the house is perfect to welcome older people, as there are two rooms downstairs and access to the sea is super easy. our parents enjoyed it to the fullest. And the fact that the pool is close by makes it easy to keep an eye on the kids while the adults chat. The gentlemen who take care of the house are super kind and helpful, and Mrs. Jeimy cooks deliciously. Disadvantages: there is a part of the road to access the house that is in poor condition. The stairs to the second floor should have non-slip, several of us slipped. Try not to use the pool light, it consumes a lot, although we use it for safety because many people spend the night on the coast (they look for turtle eggs). We would definitely go again.
