There are not enough good things to say! This was the most magical stay we’ve had. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and kind, and funny! We stayed in the yellow room , which was very dreamy with an incredible bathtub! The next morning we woke up and toured the grounds as well as a quick tour through the renovations of the main chateau. Overall, cannot recommend enough. We can’t wait to come back and see the progress!
If you want to fall in love with the history of France I cannot think of anywhere more perfect than Château de Saint Loup. When you walk through the gates and over the moat you leave the modern world behind and are living in the properties glorious past, from the Medieval tower to the 17th century chateau. The owners are a delight and will spoil you with private tours, plenty of solitude and clean impeccably decorated rooms. Château de Saint Loup is a retreat for your soul and it’s amazing to see the dedication that the owners have been putting into the restoration for the last 30 years. Smell the blooms in the orangerie, peak into the dovecote, and stroll down to a romantic pavilion along the waters edge. Go ahead, treat yourself.
This place was AMAZING! I mean, who gets to stay in a medieval keep or 17th century Château? You have to keep in mind that it is in the process of renovation, but the individual rooms, the grounds and history are spectacular. Sofie and Charles are great hosts with lots to share about their property and the surrounding areas. They were super helpful in pointing us towards things to see and even called ahead and printed out materials for our site seeing. We HIGHLY recommend this place!
Our stay was great, the owners of the château were really friendly and we got to stay in a very large room in a medieval tower, situated on a magnificent property. There were no wifi or TV in the room, but there was a large supply of books and magazines instead. It was actually very refreshing and didn't feel like it was lacking due to the medieval atmosphere.
We were travelling around France & stayed & viewed a variety of Chateaux & experienced a mix of quality & hospitality. We expected a standard room in the chateau itself- we were given a room in the keep ie the square outside in the grounds by the main gates. There was nothing on the booking to indicate this. The room was at the top 60 steps - there should be a notification for less abled individuals. The room was beyond basic, one would accept rustic however the sofa was stained & thread bare. the bathroom vanity unit was black & water stained. Paint peeling in several places in the shower. Cobwebs needed dusting away. Pillows smelt strongly of cigar smoke & disappointing for a non smoking room. Very dusty & felt dirty. Breakfast was not included in the price and we didn't feel comfortable to stay & left. In the brief for the Chateau it advertised close to local restaurants which in essence is true however there is one hotel restaurant of dubious quality & the pizza restaurant which was shut. The owner tried to confront us upon our departure as he clearly sensed we were not happy but it was rather a confrontational approach and not a conversation we felt would be constructive. The most expensive & most disappointing chateau experience on this trip
Stayed 1 night in the yellow room of the keep. Purpose of the visit was to visit friends who own a house in the village saint loup
Upon arrival was eventually greeted by Madam Sophie stating “yes, I know you’re here. It is a big place “. We were shown to our room and offered a postcard of the Chateau for our information. We asked if our Friends could be shown around and she insisted “only the grounds and not inside “.
I was disappointed to find bathroom products to be of low budget quality. Towels inadequate (small bath towel) grey and over used.
The experience should have been more informative and a personal touch for their Guests. However the property is magnificent and the grounds albeit a little neglected are also magnificent
A rare 17th century château with medeval donjon, exceptional surroundings, historically decorated rooms with original pieces, comfortable bed, exceptional breakfast, and lovely hosts that are willing to go out of their way to explain the castle’s history and renovations. Excellent cost-for-value and once in a life time experience. Warmly recommended.

Beautiful chateau in a great setting
This was our return visit to the chateau where we got married 9 years ago. The place has changed very little, and all the better for it. Staying here is a unique experience. It is a spectacular building (or buildings, if one includes the keep, orangery, dovecote, pavilion and other outbuildings) in a beautiful setting. Do not expect it to be polished - large parts are yet to be renovated - but this simply adds to its charm. Charles-Henri and Sophie are great hosts. And the village itself is beautiful.
We enjoyed our stay for two nights in the keep - a large room, tastefully furnished (apart from the prayer mat used as a rug). Sophie was an excellent and very attentive host. Breakfast was a little lacking in content and quality for the price but at least the orange juice was freshly squeezed (grown within the grounds).
We asked if we could have a bottle of wine to drink in the garden, Sophie obliged and brought three glasses and helped herself. We were a little put out when her husband tried to charge us 60 Euros for the wine as we left!
This is a wonderful place to stay. It's not some gated community hotel manned by robotic staff. The owners are a husband and wife team, who have brought the chateau and the castle back to life by devoting 25 years of loving care and attention to these properties. The village next to the chateau has restaurants and shops all within walking distance. The picturesque grounds are bordered by a river and the owners have developed a marvellous walled garden. We will definitely be going back to stay there again in the near future.
Une belle surprise pour un séjour déplacement professionnel , ou le temps d'une nuit a permis une déconnexion totale dans un environnement remarquable et aussi confortable qu'insolite .
A ne pas rater !
