About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
The Longbarn is a Grade II listed luxury home, fully renovated inside and out.
With the hills and valleys of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the countryside in this part of the world is very special indeed. A stay at the Longbarn puts you right at the heart of this beautiful landscape. Staying on a working farm, you’ll enjoy all the benefits of being away from it all, with wildlife and walks on your doorstep, yet with all the amenities of Ruthin and other towns and places of interest within easy reach.
The spacious living area is filled with light and has its own wood burning stove, but when the weather is warm you can open the doors onto the patio and stroll out into your own private garden. The property is ideal for dog lovers too, as a separate utility room with underfloor heating is the perfect spot for them to dry off after a walk.
The well-equipped kitchen is a cook’s delight, and you’re welcome to use the Longbarn’s herb garden to add some special ingredients to your menu. You might choose to eat on the patio or in the garden room, a distinctive outdoor space with large dining table and rattan chairs to take in the lovely sunsets.

Attractions and nearby amenities
The nearest town to the Longbarn is Ruthin. This historic and atmospheric North Wales town has a number of pubs and restaurants, and you’ll find tourist attractions here too. Nantclwyd House is a Grade I listed, timber-framed mansion that dates back to 1435. You’ll also find contemporary arts and crafts on display at the Ruthin Craft Centre, where there’s a café and shop.
The town of Llangollen is situated amidst the picturesque scenery of the Berwyn mountains and the Clwydian range, with the River Dee running through it. One of the best ways to see the scenery is by taking a ride on the Llangollen Railway, with daily steam train services running a ten mile stretch of the line.
A short drive to the west of the Longbarn is the jewel in the crown of North Wales, the Snowdonia National Park. The landscapes are vast, but it’s not all about the mountains. You can play golf, go horse riding, visit a slate museum or relax with a cup of tea and a cake at Betws-y-Coed.
The town of Denbigh has more listed buildings than any other town in Wales, and you’ll find a range of independent shops, cafés and restaurants here. Denbigh Castle may be more of a ruin than some of Edward I’s other castles, but it has a presence and majesty all its own and occupies a commanding position over the town.
If you’d like to enjoy some retail therapy during your stay at The Longbarn, the county town of Chester is just a short drive away. The famous black and white ‘Rows’ offer you two storeys of big brand names to explore, and there’s plenty of history on display too, with a Roman amphitheatre and splendid medieval cathedral. Another alternative for a day’s shopping is Liverpool, where you could also enjoy The Beatles Story or take a Magical Mystery Tour to see the Fab Four’s childhood homes.
Erddig is a National Trust property on the outskirts of Wrexham. In the past, the Hall has been voted Britain’s Second Finest Stately Home. Take a tour of the house to see how they lived upstairs and downstairs, or wander through the walled formal garden with its important collection of plants.
If you’d like a spot of culture while you’re in North Wales, Theatre Clwyd in Mold has built up a reputation as one of the leading arts centres in the country. Check the website to see what’s on when you visit.
