Quiet Coastal Home in Ft McAllister + Pet Friendly

This 2BR l home lies well back from the road. Among the “neighbors” are rescued squirrels, adopted as orphans by the owners’ son. Relax by the screened-in pool, or walk among the pines. Your time here will be refreshing.

This pet-friendly home is within walking distance of a dog park and woodland trail. About 3 miles away lies Fort McAllister State Park, with a reconstructed Civil War fort and miles of walking trails. Myrtle Grove Plantation and Hardwicke Studios are a mere 100 yards away.

The home has two bedrooms: a downstairs bedroom has a king-sized bed and large closets; an upstairs bedroom comes with 2 twin beds. There is a separate laundry room. Linens and towels come with your stay.

A large open area includes a living room and kitchen. The home comes with excellent WIFI and basic cable. The hallmark of this property is the privacy. There is only one neighbor–your host–on the 10-acre property.

Wildlife abounds in the woods surrounding the property. Guncclubs and hunting are a few miles away. There is excellent wildlife viewing at nearby Harris Neck Reserve.

The charm of this home is outdoors, with a plush lawn and a huge oak tree in the yard, draped with Spanish moss. Pets are welcome, and there is plenty of room for play outside, as well as dog parks nearby.

We run a busy squirrel rescue, so hosts are often seen in the yard at supper time feeding cashews to rehabilitated squirrels living in the wild. The squirrels typically come in as orphaned babies and are carefully and lovingly returned into the wild. If you would like to "meet" a squirrel, please let us know. We believe food, prayer and love play a big part in growing a squirrel big and strong, especially after a trauma. We are always glad to have help with giving them extra love. Small children are permitted to pet them gently with one finger but typically they don't hold the babies unless they are sitting down on a soft cushion since baby squirrels are wiggly and can easily fall. Some of our squirrels currently in residence are: Sid, Simon, Cannonball, Daisy, Destiny, Tulip, Henry and Rosie.

A pool is a few feet away, but guests should swim at their own risk.

Park in the driveway.

The house and backyard are for guests’ use.

For stays of 38 nights or more, we are able to split your payments into multiple payments so that you do not have to pay for the entire amount upfront. Please contact us for more information on this.

We welcome pets as long as they are house-trained. We love animals and are always glad to meet them. Please message me with the size and breed of the pet.

*Pets must be crated when the guest is not in the house. Guest must bring their own crate.*

Pet friendly: Dog Breeds NOT Allowed are Pit Bulls, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, Presa Canarios and Wolf Hybrids. Violators will be asked to vacate the property without any refund.

Not too bad….
Very much a house in the country… Deep in the country… And certainly not waterfront as the title or property at some point indicates. Not a bad little quiet spot if that’s what you’re looking for. But also on day one I got bit by a snake on the front door.

Anniversary/Concert Weekend
My hubby & I did a quick weekend getaway for our anniversary and to go see a concert in Savannah. It was a little further away from downtown Savannah than I had hoped. But the fact that we didn’t wake up to car horns & traffic was fantastic!! A cute little “bungalow” type house. We had all we needed, it was decorated nicely/homey and was very comfortable. It is st the dead end of a road in the backyard of a bigger home. But that was a non-issue for us. Overall it was a very nice stay and I would stay there again!

Renters beware!
We have stayed at a dozen VRBO rentals over the years, and this was our first negative experience. We arrived at the rental just before 8 pm, after traveling over 12 hours through 3 airports. When we stepped inside, we immediately noticed 2 issues: 1. It was hot/stuffy at 77 degrees on the main level & even hotter upstairs (thermostat set to 76) and 2. There was a very loud screeching noise coming from the toilet. It would have been impossible to sleep with the sound. We identified the vibrating piece in the tank and were able to get the noise to temporarily stop. At that point, we looked around the small bathroom and noticed the VERY dirty bathroom rug. It had both loose debris and stains. We moved to the main bedroom and immediately spotted a white stain that appeared to be of human origin on the coverlet. Shocked, we pulled back the sheets of the bed and saw two black hairs - one on the pillowcase and one on the bedsheet. It was clear that the rental had not been properly cleaned/prepared and we simply could not stomach staying there. We turned off lights, left and began looking for a last-minute place to stay for the weekend. Once we got settled in a hotel, I emailed the host to notify her that we would not be staying at the home, based on the space, bathroom, bedding, etc. It was late in the evening, so I elaborated more the next morning, providing all of the specific problems identified above. The host's response was "Thank you for all your feedback Angela. We appreaciate this and will make sure to improve based on it. Again, apologies for the inconvenience." I was stunned that the host did not address the filthiness of the rental, or offer even a partial refund, given the extent of the issues. Upon requesting a refund, the host responded to me with "Hello, we have a strict cancellation policy. You never gave us the opportunity to do anything, just left. We would have addressed any issues immediately, but you weren't interested in that. We weren't able to rent the home as you'd had it reserved for weeks beforehand and all weekend." I was shocked. We had promptly paid for the rental. They failed to provide even the most basic level of rental cleanliness. I asked her what we should have done? Called at 8 pm and waited for them to come clean the home, wash the bedding, and fix the toilet? Not only did we incur additional costs from the unexpected hotel stay, we were out 100% of the rent for this unsanitary property. Renters beware!!!

A Comfortable Stay
This is a nice quiet location close to a marina. When we had issues with the internet the host resolved them quickly. My only complaint was that check-out instructions we’re not super clear. For example, we were asked to start a load of towels in the washing machine, but didn’t see any laundry detergent anywhere. The host left two packets on the counter that I assumed were dish-washing packets but without labels, perhaps they were laundry detergent? Anyhow, written instructions inside the house and labels on specific items would be helpful.

Great pet friendly cottage near Fort McAllister and river!
Perfect for my spouse and I with our 11 year-old fur baby! Private with lots of green space and very quiet and serene. Only 30 minutes from Savannah and less than an hour to Tybee beach. The surprise was the absolutely gorgeous views at Fort McAllister and watching the sunset at Fish Tales restaurant 2 miles away. Hidden gem! Would have given 5 stars if the exterior of the house has been cleaner but would go again!
