Do not stay here! We left immediately
Not only was the property not as described in several key ways, causing us to leave immediately because we felt unsafe entering and exiting the property, but the host refused to refund any funds.
Regarding the property, there were several issues. First, the parking area in the rear was dark and strewn with trash near a shared dumpster (not shown in images). It was in the rear, and the parking lot was apparently shared with the adjacent Mexican restaurant.
Then there was the old-school lockbox that required some fumbling with a tiny and (to me) difficulty to manipulate combination lock. And because there was only one exterior key, we had to open the door and replace the key to the lockbox, which meant an uncomfortable amount of time trying to open the door and extra time with the door open before it could be closed and relocked.
The entryway was dark even during the day, and the carpeting on the floor and steps was dirty. Once on the 2nd floor, we found that the instructions for locking the door were incorrect, causing us some frustrations as we tried several times to find the correct button to relock the door.
The exterior of the building was overgrown and not well-kept, and it is between some kind of mechanic/auto junk yard with lots of vehicles in various states of disrepair (NOT shown in the pictures) and the restaurant. The neighborhood itself looked rundown, with the neighboring buildings in similar states of disrepair. The parking area was in the rear, and not lit, and required walking through it and around to the front of the house. We didn’t feel comfortable doing this in the dark, especially with the lockbox and entry issues above.
We thought it was curious that the host would not give us the address until 24 hours before our stay (and after the cancellation deadline), but now we understand. We did not have time to research the location before we arrived. We do not believe this was unintentional on the part of the host.
Since we were unable to cancel, we sent a message to the host that we had vacated the property because we didn’t feel comfortable there, & that we’d send more details later. We also contacted Vrbo about having left the property. The host’s responses were not helpful, and she offered no compensation for our aborted stay.
