Sadly, Not A Positive Review
As a five-star VRBO host myself, I know something of industry standards and this property barely measured up. Yes, the view of Porto was nothing less than spectacular, the location terrific, the lodgings as advertised ( Though it would have been nice if napkins, paper towels, directions for a laundromat, and other essentials had been provided for.) The real disappointment was the host - if you can call him that. He lives two minutes walk from the apartment but could not be bothered to welcome us. His directions to the apartment were awful- he said it was across from an address that no longer exists. We were lost for twenty minutes. His instructions for parking were so vague and ambiguous that our car was towed and vandalized. It cost us $220 to get our car out of impoundment and we had to spend five hours with the police. The host knew our car had been towed ( he insisted that his instructions clearly indicated we were to enter a garage at the site- I am not a stupid guy. I have lived in Half dozen countries and know how to read instructions- his were vague.) Even knowing our car had been towed, he never offered to help us recover it (unless scribbling the number for the local police counts as help.) He never followed up to see if we had gotten the car back or how we were. We never heard anything from him. As a VRBO host myself, I simply cannot imagine abandoning a guest in a foreign country, unable to speak the language, in this way. So. yes, it’s a grand view out the window, the apartment is all that is described, the location is terrific -lots of positives - but being a proper and caring host is a part of the VRBO experience and on those grounds I was disappointed. I sensed he was a well-meaning guy but running a successful VRBO property requires a deeper level of engagement, beyond just leaving the keys for someone and charging their credit card.

The view is incredible. The rest is pretty bad.
This would be a 1 star review if not for the view. It was also clean and in a pretty good location. The unit is otherwise very uncomfortable, particularly for a full week. First off, the included heating consists of two portable radiators. One in the main room, and a smaller one in the bedroom. These by no means heat the place in any meaningful way. We were very cold most of the time that we were not hunkered down in bed. There are no rugs anywhere, which simply added to the cold. The bathroom in particular was freezing. Thank goodness for the hair dryer, which we basically left running for a half hour at a time to heat up the bathroom before showering. The bathroom also has no ventilation. Getting bath towels dry consisted of draping them over the radiator heaters. They were very wet even after 24 hours otherwise. There is one small bathmat that was always wet. The refrigerator is what you would expect in a college dorm room, not an apartment with a "fully equipped kitchen". There was also minimal silverware, no paper towels, no dish towels, (or pot holders if you really tried to cook) and the kitchen is so narrow you can't have more than one person in there at a time. I would suggest a new table that flips down from the wall when not in use. The entire apartment has 5 electrical outlets, including just 1 in the kitchen. If you want to make coffee and toast, you need to take turns with the 1 outlet provided (or make toast in the bathroom....not ideal). One of the electrical outlets in the inner bedroom has the cover plate held in place by the heater plug. When my son unplugged the heater to plug in his phone the cover of the junction box fell off, exposing hot bare wiring. Not safe! The floor near the stairs slants downwards towards the stairs. It was not safe, particularly at night. The lights in the main room have 4000k LED bulbs. These are terrible for inside use, so we ended up mostly just burning a candle (extra heat!). The mattresses were all very hard and uncomfortable. The linen covers of the duvets are also not comfortable. The light coming into the inner bedroom from the skylight and window to the stairs is not "charming" in any way. My last comment is that my wife and son were counting down the days until we could move on to the next place. That is not how your family should feel about a VRBO experience. This place needs a lot of work, but the view is great!

The apartment owner was wonderful to work with and very helpful with any question we had and with recommendations for resturants and local activities. We had a little confusion with the initial key exchange, but otherwise the stay was great. The location is ideal. Just off the waterfront near the walking bridge and the view from the apartment was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would love to return to the area some day.

Comfort and amazing views of a beautiful and friendly city
This was a memorable holiday. This was first time we have felt pampered in a rented apartment. This was partly because of the luxurious linen sheets and top quality towels but mainly because of the kindness and friendliness of our landlords. The location is perfect and the view is outstanding. All the equipment was well chosen and worked. We have no complaints.

Stunning!!
We arrived earlier than expected but met Marcela Jr who greeted us and then made every effort to have the apartment ready, and we were not disappointed, WOW!! the views were even better than the photos. The apartment was immaculate, clean, modern, fresh and convienient to visit Porto across the bridge (walking) and we even had time to go the beach! It was a complete pleasure to stay here and we will be staying again. Don't look any where else..... this is the perfect location!! Thank you so much, just wish we could have stayed longer Jane and Friends Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, UK

Central Location with Beautiful Views!
Since this was my first time to Porto, I wasn't sure where to stay. After staying here, we realized this was the perfect place! The apartment is comfortable and clean while the owners (Ana and Marcel) and their son (Marcel Jr.) were very welcoming and helpful -- giving us recommendations for restaurants, wineries and places to visit. Thanks for a great trip!

Perfect position and a very well-groomed apartment
Dear Ana, Marcelo and Marcelo Jr :) First of all we want to say thanks for the hearty welcome by Marcelo Jr. He made us familiar with the Apartment as well as with the wonderful City of Porto and Nova Vila de Gaia. He gave us helpful hints and send us a list with important "to do's" in Porto. The Apartment is situated perfectly. Directly at the Douro River which is especially by night a very nice Position. In Addition the historical Bridge Luiz I. is directly next to the Apartment. Because of the perfect lay the most important things in Porto are within Walking distance. The Apartment is very clean and nice. At the Weekend there is a lot of traffic in the street in front of the Apartment. If you want to sleep with an open window it could be a bit noisy. But anyway even there is traffic the view through the window especially at night is breathtaking. The Family is very engaged to make the stay perfect and is always contactable if there are questions. As a welcome present the Family prepared some pasteis de nata and a very delicious wine. The Family organised perfectly a taxi to the Airport for us. Thanks a lot for making our stay perfect and greetings from Switzerland Family Stamm :)
