Nestled in the aspens and hosting a cool breeze makes The Aspen Moose a wonderful summer refuge! At 7600ft the summers are cool and the winters are deep and cozy in mounds of Utah's finest powder with world class snowmobiling from the door, sledding and tubing.

The Aspen Moose is QUIET, barely a passer by as you gather your family for a get-away you will cherish for a lifetime. Eat breakfast to the morning birds out on the deck, or lounge in the hot tub after a day of four wheeling or snowmobiling and a BBQ, only to stay out for the INCREDIBLE stars in the deep dark nights.

We host reunions, honeymooners, family getaways, ski and snowmobile squads all year long. Come for a holiday for just to see the fall leaves in our aspen forest!

We cater to families and reunions!! We CONSTANTLY upgrade and add cool stuff, as our guests request things we add them! There is a key item to know, we have a great place that it purposefully designed to be rustic and retain the feel from it being hand built many years ago. This is not your perfect dream home, if you want that please go to Deer Valley or find a cabin that suits you better. We have designed this with a lot of interactive games to bring families together, if you want the latest and greatest electronic toys we have left them out so you can put your devices down and interact with each other. The cabin is really cool, has a lot of quirky designs from being hand-built and we are really not trying to be a McMansion in any way. If this fits for you, then we hope you have a wonderful vacation.

We also have the ability for guests to snowmobile from the cabin. This special permit program has some moving parts, so please inquire. There are additional permit fees for this and logistics that may require over 2 weeks notice to set up.

Top Items!

The property has been home to the birth of a baby moose in May/06, just 50 feet from the deck! Large enough to have your own space yet designed to create the cozy appeal given by real log and fir beam construction.

In under 30 minutes away there is world class golf, restaurants, skiing and snowboarding, water skiing and wake boarding, mountain biking and shopping. See our website below for more photos and the story of The Aspen Moose. A million miles away in under an hour.

SNOWMOBILING: 2020 update: so you can snowmobile from our place into the backcountry and skip the crazy bumpy trailhead commute, though this is with special permitting that we alone can supply you with. There are moving parts to this, requires time to set up (can't do it in 24hrs) and is usually $39 per rider if you ride from the cabin, we will have more info on this after booking when we can call you. We would like 2+ weeks to give time to set up the permits.

You will need to complete your booking process with us personally. We accept your booking on VRBO and then set you up in our own system so you receive our emails, directions, info etc. This includes putting a credit card on file for deposit, incidentals, etc. We operate like a rental car company where we just authorize the card so you don't have to deal with the deposit hassle. So, after you book we will reach out, you must get in touch with us so we can complete these steps to set up your stay. :) 4wd/AWD required Oct to April

CORPORATE GROUPS: We require a 23% corporate surcharge for corporate groups. After many years of doing this we have learned that corporate groups cause more damage, don't care for the cabin and don't get informed of policies by their principal agents. 23% surcharge is on the gross booking cost and will be charged to the card on file during the stay.

Check ins- you can check in nearly any day, however major holidays are not for check ins, sorry, we do not want our staff to have to work on those days. You may be able to check out, on those days, not Christmas, usually not New Years.

Amazing cabin and close to snowmobiling!
Mike and Melissa are amazing to work with and very responsive! The cabin was perfect for our family, everything you would need and so much more! We snowmobiled right from the cabin and loved every minute we spent in the mountains and at the cabin. After a long day of riding snowmobiles it was nice to come back and relax in the hot tub. It is far enough away from everything but close enough to go to restaurants or grocery shopping. We will definitely stay here again!

Sundance Birthday Weekend
This cabin was booked because of it's location and proximity to Park City, Utah. Our group consisted of adults who were a mix of family and friends. The cabin was fantastic and met all of our needs. It feels as if your staying in a cabin that has been in the family for years! Except, it is up to date in all amenities and furnishings. This is truly a place where you feel as if you are miles away from everything, but really only a short drive from some stunning activities. We sent to the Ice Castles, tubing at Solider Hollow, and the Sundance Film Festival. One of our favorite experiences was dinner at Cafe Galleria. The host is hands-on and easy to reach with questions. We highly recommend the cabin for family and/or work orientated gatherings.

Amazing experience
Staying at Mike's Cabin was truly an unforgettable experience for both my family and myself. Mike was extremely accommodating and responsive to any inquiries we had. The Cabin is beautiful, well stocked, clean and the attention to little details throughout the cabin is second to none. Many core memories created there. Highly recommend it, especially if you have children.

Great Place!
This was such a great place to spend the weekend as a family. It was nice to have the TVs and wifi but there were enough fun activities that they weren't even necessary. Well stocked cookware in the kitchen and the hosts were so helpful with any questions we had. We'd definitely come back here

A peaceful and much needed time to get away and reconnect with my family in a beautiful neighborhood
The cabin was fully equipped, very cleaned and cared for. It felt like home right away. The responsiveness of the owner was immediate when and if we needed assistance. I would definitely bring my family back. The property around it in particular a neighbor’s home, was not as well cared for and was not as pretty but the walks and runs throughout the place made up for it. I would definitely come back and keep making memories with my adult children. Thank you!!!

Family Thanksgiving Getaway
Beautiful cabin! We especially loved the hot tub, the outdoor pizza oven, all the games for the kids.......and the wildlife. Grandkids loved trying to spot all the deer outside! All of us (7 adults and 4 children) had plenty of room to hang out and enjoy our Thanksgiving, without tripping over each other! We all had fun exploring the "hidden" treasures in the cabin. Absolutely great experience! Our only issue was the oven. We set off the smoke alarm the first time we used it. Apparently it must have had some greasy residue left inside. Oops! Regardless, we highly recommend staying here. Mike is a fantastic host.....very personable, a wealth of information and willing to make your stay the best experience you will have.

Overall, a nice extended weekend.
Let's start with the positives. The cabin has a very rustic feeling and has many little antiques and surprising details in the decor that were fun to look at. We loved that it was higher up in Timber Lakes and didn't have much traffic going by. It was quiet and peaceful and actually felt like it was a real cabin instead of a house with a few wood walls. We loved watching the occasional animal roam by. We enjoyed the game tables in the main living area on the main floor but wished there was more comfortable seating other than around the table. There was plenty of space, even floor space, for our adult college-aged children to sleep and plenty more if we had littles around. But having the main living space be filled with game tables and the living room furniture upstairs didn't work well for us. We loved the gigantic wood table in the kitchen that provided plenty of space for games and food. The negatives are minor things that might be considered personal preference but the beds were all very hard and uncomfortable if you are used to a medium firm to soft bed. We didn't enjoy the great big window in the master bathroom that opens up to the living area down stairs. Even with blinds on it, you can't help but feel very exposed. I couldn't get myself to shower in there over worry that I was giving everyone a little show. We also were not fond of the side room with the hammock that is connected to the master and is open to the room below. We felt like we couldn't use the bathroom without it echoing out over the room. The washing machine has a very bad musty smell in it that made our clothes and towels smell that way. We know the owner can't change the HOA restrictions but it seems like there has bieen a big change which eliminated much of what we were planning to do. Every hike we went on was short, blocked by private property signs, and there were so many rules about ATVs and all of the things you can't do (like fish in small lake). Part of this was due to the drought right now, but it is also because there isn't much public space left in Timber Lakes and the HOA has become so strict, I wouldn't personally buy a cabin in Timber Lakes even though 5 years ago I wanted to do so. We had very little activities outside that were not restricted so we were inside most of the day. We did get to play games and watch movies and eat so it was still a successful weekend. Thank you to Mike for trusting us with taking care of your home.

Winter Family fun
We really enjoyed: the air hocky, the magnetic pipes wall tracks, the Le Cruset cast iron pots and pans, all the beds and sleep options, the loft overlooking the common space, the supply of back-up staples (we feared being snowed in for a couple nights), the roomy refirgerator, the location in relation to the Timber Moose Lodge, the scernery and beauty, the trees all around the house, the snow, the view, the quirkiness and personal touches, that made me feel I was in a home and not a hotel, and the owners! If we were the owners, we'd change: couldn't find kitchen/utility scissors or cutting knives (though I didn't ask), make the automatic, motion-sensored night lights in the bedrooms optional (I'm a light sleeper and every time someonw stirred intheir bed the darn nightlight turned on), the lack of privacy in the master suite windows, not much else. In January we learned that most people in the are don't have AWD vehicles, and since we don't either, we figured we'd be OK arriving at the destination. We would've made oter arrangements for lodging or vehicles if we knew we needed AWD vehicles, and we were 3 parties arriving from 3 different locations. However, 2 days before check-in we learned of a looming storm that would require AWD vehicles. Sure enough, all three of our cars arrived percariously with chains on but barely. Therefore we didn't leave the lodge until we could guarentee safe exit. Thank goodness we had lots of food with us and didn't want to explore the surrounding areas! But communication was confusing about the necessity of AWD vs using chains.

Snowmobile Trip
Bucket List Trip will definitely be an annual trip with new guests moving forward. The cabin was perfect for my guest and Mike was extremely accessible during the entire trip even when we were out in the back country and had questions. This location has access to snowmobiles being delivered and parked at the cabin for multiple day use!!!! The hot tub and wood burning stove / fireplace were used every day. A MUST DO TRIP!!!!! Cole and the Team at Uinta Recreation were amazing as well. We will be back.

Great place and easy to use everything
Place has lots of room and can hold a big crew. It was just the wife and I but we enjoyed cruising the roads on the side-by-side and exploring the area. Hot tub is right out back door and is perfect for winter nights/days after the ride. EVERYTHING is labeled so you should have NO prob finding/locating anything in the house. Plenty of pots/pans/dishes so bring a big meal and grill out in the back or cook away in the kitchen. Best board games ever made fill the kids room and yes, they even have a magnetic changable ball drop game on a metal wall.

Great stay at a great cabin!
Our family had so much fun over the holidays at this cabin. It was perfect for what we needed. The owner, Mike, was extremely helpful and responsive. He checked in before our stay to give us pertinent information and helpful tips as to what to bring to make our stay more fun, etc. The cabin was a great size with lots to explore and room for everyone. And there were a lot of extras, like Nerf guns and a ton of games. We especially loved the air hockey. There is a fun scavenger hunt in the cabin too. And igloo blocks to pack with snow and build an igloo outside. The kitchen was well stocked with pans and needed items (no cupcake pans though) and there was tons of fridge space, etc. And the layout of the bedrooms is great with beds for everyone and lots of extra linens. We had a lot of fun sledding, snowmobiling, playing games and watching movies. A great way to bring in the New Year.

Great Family Experience
We rented this cabin few days to be with some of our adult children and our grandchildren. We all loved eating and playing games around the big dining table, or relaxing outside on the deck. The older kids loved the foosball and air hockey tables, the little ones loved the room right off the living area/kitchen that was full of toys and games. Everyone was entertained and had something fun to do. This was a great space for 3 or 4 couples and their kids.

The cabin is a wonderful oasis in a very snowy world.
Although we were overwhelmed by the amount of snow over President's Day weekend (and dealt with a stuck car all weekend that thought she was 4WD) the USU Lutheran Campus Ministry students enjoyed all the amenities of the cabin (including heated floor and toilet seat(s). The 12 person table was perfect for dinners (12 of us), the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. Games were played in the loft, and great conversations around the wood stove. Everyone had a bed and seemed to sleep comfortably. Some beginners went snowshoeing behind the cabin, others enjoyed sledding down the driveway (and the road), others went off on their own on trails to meditate. We also took a side trip to the Ice Castles - amazing! A good time was had by all! Pastor Teri - Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

Not exactly as described - but don't say anything!
Touted in the title as "LUX Cabin". This cabin could be called quaint or rustic, but if you go there with the impression of a luxury cabin you will be disappointed. Although there were things about the place that you can chalk up to being a cabin in the woods, if you try to tell the owner about any concerns or disappointments with the accommodations, you are met with shock, excuses and insults. Arrived for our stay to find we had no idea how to access the cabin because we didn't receive the instructions via email like we should have. Bedding on beds smelled dusty, which later we were informed that the comforters on the bed were laundered every quarter. Even though the cabin can sleep up to 22, there were no sitting areas that had enough comfortable seating for our group of 8 adults and 3 children to gather together. When fixing breakfast, we couldn't run the toaster at the same time as the microwave without tripping a breaker. During the second day, the kitchen oven lost power. Although we checked fuses and outlets, we didn't think to check an outlet in a bathroom as the culprit to the power issues with the oven. Taking grandkids out for a walk around the property was precarious with thistles everywhere, stinging nettle, and dead, fallen trees on outbuildings. The most frustrating part of weekend was the communication with the owner when there were issues. Texts were usually not answered until the next day which proved problematic when I couldn't prepare the meals we had planned. I wrote a personal letter to the owner to share my perspective of our stay at his property. I thought concerns could be remedied for the next guests. I received an answer that basically told me that I was the problem. My expectations were too high, I was too critical, didn't use resources, wasn't creative, and he wished he could screen for guests like me that aren't a good fit for his property. Delayed texts were glitches with a new phone, thistles because the weed guy's doing a bad job, musty smell was a guest using powdered detergent and clogged a drain, scary grounds because a propane company botched an install date to bury tanks. Excuses kept coming. He says the listing emphasizes it's a dusty cabin with cobwebs - which it doesn't, and is not consistent with "LUX Cabin". I wish I could give separate ratings for the cabin vs. dealing with the owner. Cabin might get 3-4 stars. Owner would get 1-2 stars. This rating was a compromise between the two.

super clean, cool and chill!
I don't know where to start, it seems like you have thought of everything. First- we loved that your place was CLEAN- and everything worked like a great flow with our weekend... the warm floors were dreamy, now our own house seems like we need an upgrade! The custom work in your cabin makes it super cool, never been in a place like it. We've stayed at a lot of rental cabins and your place seems like you have really taken time to think about guest experience. From the large view windows where the deer and moose were eating to the lovely little nooks for kids to play- and there were so many times where we would be like- "I wonder if they have_xxxx_?" - and you'd have two. The kids were joking that it was like being in an Animal Planet show with all of the animals at the windows- they were like "come see out my TV!" - they were super jazzed. We loved how you have built the rustic luxury feel, beautiful place but didn't worry about kids breaking things. We've stayed at cabins that were super nice like yours and then we were constantly worrying about them knocking over a piece of art or something- thanks for the peace of mind! The hikes you told us about were perfect for the family- just as the little kids got tired it was over- my wife joked that there were cages where they let out the moose right as you came around the corner- it was amazing to watch them feeding in the meadows and see all of the BIRDS- holy smokes- there were so many birds to watch- again- Animal Planet! Thank you for a magical weekend- this needs to be a regular event- it was so good for all of us. God bless.
