Gatekeeper’s Cottage at Chinaberry Grove..

Fresh air, open skies and a lot of space. A place where children can run and adults can play ride bikes and take long walks. Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and six other wildlife refuges are located within an easy drive. Our community of Terra Ceia is located in the center of the historic towns of Belhaven, Bath, Plymouth and Washington. A day trip to the Atlantic Ocean is easy as the cottage is approximately ninety miles to beaches both north and south.

Each bedroom has a private bath.

Guest access
Please read the captions on our photos for a walking tour of our 4 acre property! It’s in the country, so it’s quiet and peaceful.
Also a benefit of where we live, it is VERY dark on moonless nights! In fact, we’re located in the last “dark sky” area on the east coast of the USA. So, bring your telescopes and check out the stars and milky way! There is nearby access to water for boating, fishing and swimming. The yard hosts an array of birds and friendly wildlife and during the winter months depending on wind direction you can see thousands of Tundra Swans flying over the property to feed in nearby fields. You will see amazing sunrises and sunsets. Located nearby is a family farm that grows fields of seasonal flowers with a showroom that sells an array of bulbs. Also nearby in the town of Belhaven is a family owned and operated five star restaurant. Our goal is to give you the best that country living has to offer.

Wonderful relaxing layover
Family and I were on a 15 hour road trip and this relaxing cottage is exactly what we needed to rest in between our two driving days. The place was clean and well stocked with much needed coffee. We walked the property and enjoyed all the beautiful flowers and nature scenes. We then got a great sleep and hit the road again. For us this is much better overnight scenario than a hotel, the kids dont sleep if they are in same room, so we had plenty of space to spread out for the same price, and wonderful hosts.

Secret garden for bird lovers
We loved our stay at this beautiful cottage/property. The cottage is surrounded by trees and gardens which makes it very private. The property is surrounded by peaceful farmland. It is conveniently located about 15 minutes to Belhaven and Bath, and 30 minutes to Washington. We had two fine meals at local restaurants and enjoyed exploring the area.

Lovely getaway
What a charming cottage! Our hosts have great taste- the house is beautifully decorated and the gardens surrounding it are exceptionally lovely. They thought of everything we might need and made us feel welcome and at home. Amazing birdwatching is close by at Pungo and Mattamuskeet wildlife reserves. We highly recommend!
