Lack of communication
To be fair this was a shared error with VRBO. I was told that they didn't get the reservation from VRBO and someone is already staying at the property. I'm not sure who's fault it really is since VRBO customer service said that our reservation should have been in their dashboard but what didn't help was that I called and left a message and texted the host regarding my check in instructions. I've also sent multiple messages in VRBO app since it's past my check-in time and I still don't have any check-in information even though I got confirmation my reservation including the property address. I didn't get a call back from the host till 3 hours after and we were 20 minutes away from the property only to find out that the room was over booked. This trip was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my 76-year-old parents. Now it's dark and all the hotels on island are booked because of how late it is. Luckily, my dad remembered a friend that lived in the island and was able to let us stay with them.
