The River Cabin

The River Cabin is a log cabin located on the Muskegon River in Newaygo, MI. It was built 80 feet above the river in the 1920s and has since been updated to make it a serene home.

The owners have preserved the original cabin as the large, gathering room and porch that serves as a hangout with an additional sleeping area. Open layout to the kitchen and dining area. Spacious, skylight windows, and 360 degree views of nature

The Primary bedroom overlooks the river with its own bathroom and stone shower. It has a king bed, heated floor, and ceiling fan. The second bedroom has a queen bed, heated floor, and across the hall from the bathroom/laundry room. The main bathroom has a heated floor, stone shower, and laundry with washer/dryer.

Green space all around the cabin with a hammock, picnic table, lawn furniture, and fire pit. The River Cabin is above the river 80 feet on a steep hill and not recommended for unsupervised children. Prepare to walk up and down several stairs to the riverbank.

The Muskegon River is considered one of the best tailwater fisheries east of the Mississippi and it rarely freezes. Fish from the riverbank all year round. During the summer months the river is enjoyed by recreational tubing, paddlers, and boating.

Enjoy bird and nature watching from a lawn chair or take a walk. The country roads that lead to the cabin are great for walks, runs, or bike rides.

The River Cabin has modern amenities and immerses you in nature for an unforgettable experience.

Fantastic place
This is a fantastic cabin, we loved everything! Lots of wildlife to enjoy and the Muskegon river. The cabin is very nice and well equipped. For older people with knee issues the staircase to the river might be an issue, it’s long, about 80 steps. My only suggestion is to add a hummingbird feeder :). A few came by to check out other feeders.

Beautiful cabin, Cozy stay
The cabin listing photos do not do this place justice. It is beautiful. You get the authentic log cabin experience mixed with modern amenities and beautiful works of art. I particularly enjoyed the book collection, the stone showers and bird watching from the primary bedroom windows. The river is peaceful and wildlife is plentiful. We saw a bald Eagle soar by daily, a flock of turkeys and many deer along with the chipmunks, squirrels and birds. The cabin was so cozy and stayed cool even on hot days, that is was hard to leave to explore and adventure elsewhere. Our only regret was not staying longer to enjoy the many indoor and outdoor games provided as well as enjoy fishing from the river longer. Many thanks to sharing your special place with us. My family truly enjoyed it.

Family Getaway
We had a great time fishing and floating in the river. We had a little rain but nothing that stopped us from enjoying our time. Lewis and Amanda were very nice and responded to questions right away. Overall a great trip.
