Yes, it’s cheap… for NYC. Private rooms are not quite private. They don’t have roofs, which means you can hear what’s going on in all of the other rooms. Just wear earplugs at night and perhaps other guest’s snores won’t keep you up.

I stayed there for 3 nights and 4 days. If you are someone like me who can sleep soundly without worrying about some noise, it is one of the best options. I met three employees during that time and all three were very nice and cheerful. The communal kitchen had a refrigerator where we could store fruit and yogurt from the nearby Whole Foods. It was slightly cold, so I requested a blanket and they brought me one right away. I would have preferred hangers or shelves if possible. The reception area on the first floor and the common areas on the second and third floors are decorated with antiques, which I liked very much. I would recommend it if you are not very big and not nervous. The geographical location is perfect. I would stay here again.

It was exquisitely beautiful, cozy and clean. When it comes understanding how your room looks like you should look about the Express word in the hostel name. It I was pleasantly surprised to how quiet it was. I heard people’s conversations on the phone during the day but nights were tranquil. The staff has positive mindset. The common area is nice to be at and convenient.

I stayed on the women only floor, it had the smell of a gym locker. The “room” is more a “pod”. I am 5 ft 5 in, I could barely stretch out on the bed with my legs straight. I have a normal BMI and can fit through the narrow door. I plugged my phone charger in the only outlet on the wall opposite the bed. Each time I get out of bed I knock into it. The space was just so tight. I guess NYC real estate is so high priced this is what is affordable for a visitor on a budget. I must compliment the common area, the kitchen is user friendly. The livingroom is very comfy, spacious and elegantly decorated.

Good location in terms of it being close to most tourist attractions, but a bit of a run down neighbourhood, friendly and helpful staff, very clean, private and secure, would absolutely stay there again. Beautiful amd clean shared living spaces overall great stay. Only problem was the temperature of the communal showers, stayed on all female floor and was very happy with my stay.

You get what you pay for
An uncomfortable tiny "pod" without a ceiling. You will hear every noise every other body makes in the hostel, which should not advertise itself as offering private rooms. Technically you are surrounded by four walls, but you are not enclosed for reasons of "fire" code they say. You will need earplugs. Quiet hours are not enforced, someone was watching tv in the pod next to mine at full volume late into the night and since there is no ceiling... I could hear everything. Nice common spaces, terrible tiny rooms. Cheap for a reason.

I really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were small but cozy. It was hard sleeping while being able to hear others snoring, but they provided ear plugs to help!

Very *very* basic, only one men's toilet and two showers for a whole floor counting approximately 30 rooms. No tablets and/or chairs in rooms or shower area, so be prepared to have all your stuff on the floors at all time. Not everything the traveler carries fits on 2 little hooks. No safe box available for precious belongings like passports. I know it's NYC and you can't expect too much, but as a seasoned traveler this was the most basic stay ever... Very small changes could make this much more enjoyable.

Teeny weeny room or closet if you will. Only one toilet for maybe 30 men and not very private shower. Was out of toilet paper first morning. Staff was super nice. They had great common areas and entertainment in the lobby. Jazz and comedy.
