You'd think $450 a night would merit shampoo ...
$450 (inc tax) will buy you a ticket across the Atlantic (and leave you change) but apparently it won't get you shampoo in your room at the Empire Hotel. The place has seen better days: there are almost no amenities on site; the a/c is as loud as a jet engine; the view from the room is grimly urban; and all you get for an immense amount of money is a free bottle of water, a tiny bar of soap and a clean bed for the night. That's New York in 2024, of course: but the lack of shampoo felt like salt in the wound. The kindly desk clerk apologized, as if such minor insults were par for the course. Do better, Empire!

Great Staff and Wonderful location
Very helpful and responsive front desk and housekeeping staff and doormen. Many good options for food and dining close to the hotel. Easy bus and subway connections to airports or attractions.

The location was favorable but the beds were insanely hard. Our room was specifically janky with the main room door that didn’t fit in the doorway so there was lots of light and noise coming through. They also control your room AC / heating and our air would turn off at night so we had to ask them to take the restriction off so we could use it.

The hotel lobby and the rooftop bar are beautiful, but my room was sad and dark with a lumpy bed. There was no way to open the window shade, so although there was a window, the room was dark and dingy with no natural lighting. The bathroom was so tiny that you couldn’t close the door unless you stepped inside the shower in order to use the toilet/reach the toilet paper. I was really disappointed in the room. The availability of water bottles through at the check in counter was nice though.

I was initially terrified after seeing horrible reviews posted. However, I had a pleasant stay. Yes the hotel is old and outdated and could use some major renovations. It is in an excellent area within walkable distance to Times Square, Central Park, plenty of coffee shops and many subway entrances/bus stops. Staff was friendly and made checking in/out a breeze. For the price, I would definitely go back.

The standard room is tiny - we were stepping on each other just trying to get from one space to another. The only food service in the hotel is the rooftop bar / restaurant. But be aware that in the evening they probably will not allow minors to go there. So we walked with our kids to a nearby diner at close to 1am due to a late flight. An option they suggested was to order with a food delivery service. All that said - the staff is wonderful. They were very personable both on the phone and in person. And they are quick to deliver anything that they have available like ice or an extra pillow.

The price was fair. Lack of coffee pot in room. Toilet distance from wall almost made impossible to sit down. No fan in bathroom. Room felt humid. Furniture seemed old, ie., damaged. All that aside the staff was excellent, rooftop fun and location very nice.

Hotel was very nice, and staff was extremely great! The location is great! Lots to see and do around the area and plenty of food options. The room could have used some repair especially in the bathroom where the door was a little messed up. The bed is pretty firm. But all in all a good hotel!
