Breakers End - Where Vacations Begin!
This quintessential and historic cottage is located at the south end of Breakers Avenue in Neskowin Village, along the Northern Coast of Oregon. It has been renovated with an ideal balance of higher end features & cottage charm.
At just over 1,000 square feet this cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Breakers End can accommodate a total of 6 guests (4 adults max). Fondly known as "The Bath House" among locals, this cottage was originally built in the 1920s as a public bath house for beach goers & was converted to a private residence in the 1940s. It is a cherished piece of history along the Oregon coast, situated very close to Proposal Rock & an approximate 2 hour drive from Portland, Oregon. The floor to ceiling windows in the back look out upon the large yard & deck which features outdoor dining areas, couch & swivel gliders with fire table, outdoor shower, hot tub, cobblestone paths that wrap around the cottage, a sandy fire-pit, and a privacy fence.
Highlights of the remodel include heated floors throughout the entire home, vaulted ceilings with shiplap style detail & beams, all new windows, updated bathrooms & fixtures, and a new kitchen with Thermador side-opening full size oven, Bosch refrigerator, Bosch slim dishwasher, GE Monogram induction cooktop & Pental Quartz countertops. The cottage is outfitted with gear from Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Rejuvenation, Serena & Lily, and Schoolhouse Electric along with some favorites from Ikea. Both bedrooms each have one king size bed and one pull out loveseat for children. Breakers End is ideal for one family, and is a tight squeeze for two families. If you are looking for a small cottage that's close to the beach with premium finishes & great outdoor space, then this cottage is a great selection.
LAYOUT
The cottage is just over 1,000 square feet. The kitchen, dining & living areas are to the left upon entering from the back (the main entrance), and the two bedrooms are to the right and are connected to each other (no hallway).
KITCHEN & DINING
The kitchen & dining are combined into one space, and the dining area features a built in bench and table that comfortably seats six guests. The kitchen is well designed to maximize space and includes standard appliances such as coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and blender. The kitchen is also decked out with a selection of gear not typically found in vacation rentals: Le Creuset baking pans & dutch oven, All Clad induction pots & pans, Crate & Barrel dinnerware, Crate & Barrel silverware, Wusthof knives, Williams Sonoma stemless wine glasses & Pottery Barn acrylic tumblers and coastal themed serving ware. A limited selection of spices, seasonings, and condiments are available for guests as well.
LIVING AREA
The living room connects the dining & kitchen end of the cottage to the bedrooms, and even has an authentic porthole interior window. The living room has a double sided fireplace with hearth, a comfortable Pottery Barn sectional couch & Roku TV (no cable channels). The TV stand has a stash of games & puzzles for rainy days.
BEDROOM #1 - NAUTICAL BEDROOM
This bedroom features a vaulted ceiling, nautical chandelier, and pendant lights over the bed. This bedroom has a king size bed & pull out loveseat for children. A full bathroom is located just outside of the bedroom, and includes a shower which is hiding the original cement base under new tile, from the days when Breakers End was the village's public bath house for beach goers.
BEDROOM #2 - PRIMARY SUITE
The primary suite has French Doors opening onto the front patio, an attached laundry room, and en suite full bath with tub-shower combination. This room features "bat & board" walls and a sloped ceiling. You can open the French Doors and hear the ocean waves. Originally, when the primary suite was added in the 1960s, the only access was from the exterior, however when it was renovated, a small door was added in the corner of the nautical bedroom which provides interior access directly to the primary suite (aka "Jackson's Door"). This door serves as the only interior entrance to the primary suite, and measures a mere 17" wide. Guests are welcome to lock this door and exclusively use the exterior entrance if preferred. If guests prefer interior access to the primary suite, it is only accessible by walking through the nautical bedroom's skinny door (there is not a traditional hallway). Please see 3D virtual tour & photos for details. The primary suite has a king size bed & pull out loveseat for children, as well as a Roku TV (no cable channels). Please note that due to space this loveseat does not pull out all the way & we suggest using the mattress in the opposite corner without the loveseat.
OUTDOORS
Breakers End has a large deck on the back that is approximately 600 sq ft and gets great sunshine! It has outdoor seating for both lounging and dining, as well as a charcoal bbq & fire-pit table. The deck also features an outdoor shower & hot tub - perfect way to wrap up a day at the beach! Note: outdoor cushions are stored during wetter months (typically Nov-April). The deck is open to the yard on the west side, there is a cobble stone pathway wrapping around the cottage, and there is a fire pit area in the back of the fully fenced yard - this yard is unusually large for a home in the village!
LOCATION
Breakers End is just a skip and a hop to the beach, and it's easy to walk around the village and explore. Ideally located in the middle of both ocean and creek access paths, it is approximately 150 feet from the cottage's path to the top of the beach access. Breakers End is the 3rd home back from the ocean, and is located in The Point, a private cul-de-sac that's perfect for kids to ride bikes and climb trees. Alternatively, the river path is a great way to pop over to the river which is an ideal way for families with young children to enjoy the beach. When the tide is out you can wade right across the river to South Beach and explore the Ghost Forest as well as tide pools around Proposal Rock. While you can hear the ocean & might catch a glimpse of the ocean from certain spots, Breakers End is not ocean front and does not have a view of the ocean. It is tucked back with great beach access.
