It’s beautiful setting.... great panoramic views... hard to imagine how a woman could live in so much beauty but so limited by the walls and probably little freedom .
We visited the Castillo de Monterrei a few years ago right after the Parador opened and vowed we would stay there if we returned to Spain. We fulfilled our desire and were not disappointed in the least. We were warmly received and attended to throughout our stay. With only 12 rooms this is a great option if you are looking to get away from it all. We opted for the half-board option which enabled us to experience a wide variety of delicious Galician cuisine for a reasonable price. We were the only guests for the evening meal which made the meal even more special and memorable. The setting of the castle is breathtaking, with expansive views of the surrounding countryside and over to Portugal. The ability to wander the grounds at our whim and leisure contributed to the feeling that we were the current residents of the castle and keep. Our favorite Parador stay yet and we would definitely return again.
Exceptional locale in extremely comfortable castle in Spain. Staff, restaurant, amenities all charming. Local tourist guide offered free tour of castle buildings (12th Century church, castle keep, and tower). Highly recommend this dream of a hotel.
Yo no volveré
