Rivendell embodies the charm of a bygone era. One of oldest properties on the river, the home was built in the 1930s as a country manor for a well-to-do family from San Francisco. The interior is updated with modern comforts but retains elements of a fine country home: a stone hearth, beautiful wood paneling and floors, and a formal dining room surrounded by paned windows with access through French doors to a series of terraces leading to the river. The outdoor spaces and access to the river are unmatched with stone and brick work throughout 4 separate outdoor living spaces. Steps lead directly to private river access with a dock and boats provided during the warmer months. A burbling fountain, fruit trees, flowering bulbs, lush greenery, and towering redwood trees capture your senses!
The property is named for the peaceful refuge of Rivendell from J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings because of its old-world charm and magic. As "the last homely house east of the sea," it is lovingly set up to evoke the spirit of Rivendell, a haven for adventurers who wish to explore the beauty of the Russian River, Sonoma Valley and nearby sea. It is "a perfect house, whether you like food or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there is a cure for weariness, fear and sadness."
