Beach Lodge: 3 Bedroom - Pet Friendly - Game Room - Great for Multi Families

Welcome to the Slaughter Beach Lodge. We are pet friendly, kid friendly, sanctuary away from it all. This house offers a multitude of amenities. Downstairs is the original fishing cottage that has been transformed into the game room and hangout space. You will find darts, shuffle board, foosball, poker table and air hockey as well as a chest full of board games. The downstairs kitchenette has a retro dining booth, a working sink, microwave and mini fridge. (rest assured the main kitchen upstairs has everything you need). Also downstairs just off the kitchen is 1 of the 3 bedrooms. This bedroom has a queen bed and a full bed. Just off the game room you'll find a bathroom with a shower plus a full size washer and dryer. The downstairs is the perfect drop zone for all your beach essentials as well as a perfect drop zone for the kids after a long hot day at the beach. Head upstairs by way of the winding spiral staircase or head outside and take the much wider deck stairs to the second story. Upon entering the second story you may think you've entered a different house in the beach lodge's newest addition. You will find a full kitchen, two bedrooms (1 king bed and 1 queen bed), a full bathroom, an expansive living room, and a great dining area with breakfast bar. The views upstairs range from the gorgeous marsh sunsets to glimpses of the bay so you can tell if it's high or low tide. In the living room is a large comfy couch and 2 futons that pull out to full beds. The vaulted ceilings and the endless windows truly make for a beautiful space upstairs.
The beach lodge is conveniently located just two houses down from the Beach Access road. (less than a 5 min walk to the sand)
2020 is our first season hosting our home as a rental property. We are not a large property management company, this a family working hard to bring the Slaughter Beach that we love to you(except for the weeks that we are there!)

About Slaughter Beach:
Slaughter Beach is located on the Delaware Bay. The Beach has small waves and tiny pebbles along the tide lines. The water is great for young children since the waves are small however big kids enjoy it too! Just don't forget your water shoes. We love to search for heart shaped rocks along the sand. During low tide you can walk out into the bay and see what lies beneath.
Slaughter Beach is located in a nature preserve. It is home to ospreys and eagles and many other beautiful shore birds as well as migratory birds. You can walk along the new marvel salt marsh boardwalk and use the stationary binoculars to take a look at the nest and the birds that are nesting. Slaughter beach is most famously known as a home to horseshoe crabs. Every year in spring the horseshoe crabs spawn at the shoreline. You're sure to see tons during springtime, however during the summer you will see them sparingly along the shoreline waiting for you to flip them over so they can scurry back into the water. A few miles down the road is DuPont Nature Center, kids (and adults) love this hands-on showcase of all the local wildlife. If you enjoy bicycling, just down the street across from the saltwater boardwalk you'll find a DIY bike repair station. The majority of the beach town is one single street of homes. This keeps the beach quiet with plenty of room for you spread out your towel. Slaughter Beach draws attention due to it's interesting town name. But upon arrival you are sure to find your newest favorite hidden gem.

Perfect family size and great beach access
The house was perfect for our family of four plus my mom. Check in was straightforward and the house had a ton of games for kids of all ages. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of utensils and supplies already at the house. The best part was the location right next to public beach access. It made it so easy to walk back and fourth. Especially nice when you forget something. The last bonus was the kayaks. Overall I really enjoyed what was provided in addition to a place to sleep.

This was a great stay for my family and I. We stayed while attending a lacrosse tournament at the Delaware Turf Complex. The atmosphere of the house and the neighborhood is very relaxing. It was a nice change from staying at a hotel. We all agreed that the vibe of the house made you feel relaxed and refreshed. The host is very responsive, kind and accessible. The game room was fun for my husband and son after a long day of lacrosse. We only had a chance to glimpse at the beach but it is just across the street and VERY close. Check in and out were easy! All boxes ticked for us! Thank you to Sarah for allowing us to use the home. Will stay again next year if it's available.

Great house for family gathering
The Beach Lodge exceeded our expectations. It was super clean and well- organized. The game room was lots of fun, not only having shuffle board and air hockey, but also lots of board games and building toys for children of all ages. The main floor was open with a large table that accommodated our group of nine. The kitchen was equipped with everything you might need to prepare a good dinner. We liked the Dupont Nature Center about 2 miles away and the sunsets over the salt marsh. The horseshoe crabs on the beach were interesting. Our three-year-old granddaughter enjoyed riding her bike on the quiet road in front of the building. A nice place for a family getaway.

Great house, great host, perfect location
Maybe Slaughter Beach doesn't sound like idyllic location however in May when the crabs spawn and the shorebirds arrive it's a great location to see one of the bird migration capitals of the world. The house is superbly presented with everything where you would expect and easy beach access along with a short drive to route 1. Sarah, the host, has made our stay so easy with nothing being too much trouble. It's by far the best house I've stayed in on Slaughter Beach.

Fabulous house for spring getaway
We spent 3 nights with 2 adults and 3 teens. The setup of the house was perfect for us. Upstairs is spacious, bright and airy. View over the marsh is lovely; we saw a variety of birds. Kitchen is well-equipped. Beds are comfortable. Downstairs was a dream come true for the teens. TV, video games, air hockey, foosball, and a completely separate hangout space. We lucked out with the weather- 70s and sunny. Beach access is right across the street. The teens took the kayaks out everyday when the tide was high enough and spent time hanging on the sand. We only saw a few other people on the beach, from a distance, the entire time. I hope we’ll have the opportunity to return!

Nice property
The property was excellent for our needs. Family traveled DE for a wedding in Maryland. It was the perfect place for the women in the wedding party, with tons of space to get ready. The downtime from the wedding was spent on the beach which is just down the street. Well equipped for everyday living. Great selection of entertainment. Wonderful deck where we were entertained nightly by wildlife in the back yard. Deer, birds, and a fox! Delightfully quiet area! I will stay here again if traveling with my whole family again!

Quiet Comfy Home
This house was perfect for my family. The lower level was the kids area, the games (air hockey and fooseball were played every night, tournament style), their own mini fridge for snacks, bathroom, and bedroom. The upstairs was very comfortable. The kitchen had everything I needed to cook and two bedrooms. But the best part was the view off the back deck! Sunsets and storms were awesome to watch from there, saw deer, a fox, plenty of birds. The beach was less than 5 minute walk from the front door. The beach is pebbles and sand, and mostly to yourself. We saw plenty of horseshoe crabs. The bay was not rough at all, perfect for paddle but warm so jelly fish were an issue. And let’s not forget Captain Bob, the amazing neighbor who was super friendly and helpful. Great house!

Quiet
We loved the peace and quiet and how few people were on the beach. The water was so much warmer than the ocean. The beach was nice but had a good amount of dead horseshoe crabs but it wasn't that bad. The house was super clean but had quite a few of small ants. They did not bother me but it did bother some other family members..

I really wanted to love this house but...
Ant traps ON the kitchen countertops! A review with ant problem 7/2020. This house STILL has a SEVERE ant problem. Why would anyone put traps on countertops. countertops, floors & cabinets were infested. a few hours of killing ants and cleaning-not how a vacation should start. thought I had everything under control. NOPE, ants had gotten into our food & we had to throw away most of it. ants were coming out from under refrigerator, under stove, knobs on the stove & some ants in dirty microwave. toaster oven filled with crumbs from previous guests, countertops sticky & crumbs. quick run to Walmart purchased terro ant traps & put them on the floor, under appliances & lower cabinets. solved problem after day 3. Some stragglers here & there the entire week but We were able to deal. TIP: We used the dining table as our "safety zone" kept all of our non-perishable food on that table. The floors were sticky, very dirty.cleaned them as best as we could with water & white vinegar mix & used a towel. The tub had a dirt ring around it as well as the toilet. found cleaning supplies in the closet-scrubbed the bathroom too. never worked so hard to get a house clean on vacation. (a paid rental with cleaning fees no less). A Dyson vac on the wall, canister FULL. Gross. Were we expected to empty that? Not my job, didn't use it. And Don't plan on grilling. we had plans to grill but the bbq was unusable. the grill deflectors were fully rusted/broken & the grill tops a filthy mess. Thank goodness for my handy hubby. purchased cheap metal shields, made homemade deflectors & purchased cheap grill tops So we didn't have to put food directly on that nasty bbq. Read all reviews, many comments the house was clean. we all have different levels of what clean is. this house was far from clean. note on the fridge "please do your best to pick up after yourself so our cherished cleaning lady can focus on sanitizing rather than general cleanup". Hmmm Nothing changed since 7/2020 review. house needs DEEP cleaning, walls & ceiling repaired & a good paint job. Messaged Sarah when I got home-apologetic, would have sent cleaning crew if issue known. would have had someone come spray for ants. Last thing we wanted was people spraying pesticides while we're in house w/pups. You can't be unaware of ant problem with ant traps on the counter in plain sight. Did cleaning lady not tell you? Perhaps they don't tell you the truth on how each turnover goes. Spacious house

One of the best vacations ever!
The Lodge at Slaughter Beach was perfect for our family, spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished, just steps from the beach, close to conveniences and a short, easy drive to tourist attractions. We found everything we wanted or needed at the house, down to a great assortment of reading material and family games. Sarah was the perfect host, warm and receptive, like staying with a friend. I hesitate to give such a glowing review, because we'd like to keep this little corner of the world all to ourselves!

Great house for teens
The house is right on the road, almost directly across from the beach access. The house was spotless and had a wonderful layout for the teens in the group. The beach is in a very natural state so you do not see umbrellas and beach towels everywhere but it was great for collecting rocks and shells. We saw lots of horseshoe crabs, conch shells, turtles and birds. Kyacks are a plus but only go at high tide as the tidal fluctuations here are huge and you can walk out into the sand a long distance when the tide is out. Drove to Rehobath beach one day (40min) which was fun but I prefered the quiet atmosphere of Slaughter Beach.

Something for everyone
The timing of our stay included 2 to 3 days of a persistent nor'easter. The puzzles, games, shuffleboard, air hockey and video games kept the teens and adults entertained. It was just a quick walk to the beach area to explore what the storm washed in....horseshoe crabs, fish, shrimp, a flounder and a toad fish. Although it was too rough and chilly to use during our stay, there were kayaks and beach chairs available. Kitchen was well supplied with everything we needed to prepare our meals. Very nice, family friendly place.
