The room was much smaller than the pictures led to believe. Essentially a cave dwelling but with modern plumbing and electrical. The charm was ok but the mattress was terribly soft and didn't provide a good night's sleep. Also it was very noisy...we could hear everything outside as if it were inside. People talking, bottles being thrown inyo the recycle bin at 1 am and again at 6 am...etc.

Lovely spot to experience Matera.Carla was very helpful although no assistance at property after 6 pm or before 8 am.room was huge…bathroom tight but it was in a cave and was truly unique Would recommend..

Beautifully designed property; the cave with modern amenities was a great experience! Carla at the front desk is a treasure and took such good care of us recommending excellent places for dinner and things to do in the area. The breakfasts at Conche were delicious as well. Great place to stay.

This town is an adventure into the past. Saying back some 12,000 years its history is revealed in layers. The hotel is an experience like none other as you are living in a cave with modern luxury. The staff is amazing in all regards. Matera and the Sasse is a bucket list adventure. Bring your walking shoes!

This is without a doubt one of the nicest most unique hotels I have stayed in ! All staff very friendly and attentive . The breakfast is an experience in itself ! Amazing all brought out to the table one course at a time . I would 100% recommend this hotel 👌

Amazing boutique hotel in a genuine Sassi cave, modern renovation makes it very comfortable. The ability to assist with booking car parking (even during the busy festa day) and then arrange a transfer which drops you off 20 metres away was an amazing convenience. The proprietors really go above and beyond to ensure you’re given exemplary service. We stayed in a deluxe room which had two beds for our kids and was amazingly spacious and convenient.

Exceptional in every way
I don't often wax lyrical about the very many stays I have had in hotels and b and bs around the world but Conche Luxury Retreat, in the historic centre of Matera, is absolutely worthy of the highest praise. For a start, even before your arrival, the attentive host Carla contacts you to find out how you are getting to Matera and then works with you to make sure you know exactly how to find this absolute gem of a hotel nestling right in the centre of this Unesco World Heritage Site. On arrival you are taken to a beautifully and tastefully appointed former cave house, now hotel room, and greeted with aperitifs and snacks. And the experience just gets better. Breakfast each morning is an absolute feast -setting you up for the day ahead. Matera itself is simply jaw-droppingly stunning - literally like no other place on earth. I cannot recommend a visit to the city enough and if so, staying at the exceptional Conche Luxury Retreat to make the experience complete.

It’s so beautiful. The design is very chic and unique. It highlights the natural beauty of the cave and also makes it so comfortable and contemporary. The breakfast is amazing. Definitely one of the best hotels I’ve visited.
