Pass the Keys | Magical period house in the heart of Ludlow

About this space
Characterful, medieval townhouse dating back to 1620. Inhabited by writers, poets, and artists over the years it has an eclectic and cozy feel. Open plan living room with a fireplace, loads of beams, ancient paneling and oak staircase. Conveniently situated just off famous Broad street within the old town walls. It sits just minutes away from Ludlow’s bustling market square, castle, pubs, restaurants, shops and walks along the river Teme.
The space
The magical, grade two listed house is truly in keeping with the atmosphere of charming Ludlow. The accommodation comprises of a large oak floored, beamed living room with a cozy fireplace, TV, and WIFI. A well-equipped open-plan kitchen that flows into the dining area with ancient oak paneling, oak table, and bench seat. The upstairs rooms are very light and airy with an abundance of skylights. There are 2 double bedrooms and one single. A good-sized family bathroom with bath and shower. Downstairs also offers a small shower room and WC. The house is a family home full of antiques, books, and decorative items collected with love. There is a small sun-filled courtyard with tables and chairs and a washing line if needed. Pretty much all the mod cons, and a washer and dryer in the cellar.
Guest access
The house is entirely yours during the stay. Access only from Brand Lane.
Other things to note
The house does not have its own parking due to its very central location. However, pay and display meters are available minutes away on Broad Street and Old Street. The long-term Smithfield car park is located on Lower Galdeford just a very short walk away by the Police station, where you can park for £2.40 per day or £10 for the week. Download the MIpermit APP. Brand Lane is also just 10 minutes from Ludlow train station if you prefer to travel by train!

We have listed that the property is unsuitable for young children but be aware that the house has no front garden and is on a road with a very small pavement, so the front door is close to the road.

No smoking or vaping, and sorry, no pets.

Supermarkets
We have two large supermarkets in Ludlow, Tesco and Aldi. Ludlow town centre is a 2-minute walk from the house, where you will find many shops and the market, where you can buy local produce.

Local Restaurants
Ludlow town centre has plenty of restaurants to suit all tastes. Here are some of our favourites. If you are looking for more fine dining, Motimers and Forelles are good. The Fish House, The French Pantry and Bistro 7. Wildwood for Pizza. The Church Inn, which is in the centre of the town. The Chang Thai Bar, The Blue Boar, The Feathers Hotel, which dates back to 1619. For a quick bite, Vaughans sandwich bar or CSONS, which is located next to the River Teme both serves vegetarian and vegan. And Taste at no 1, which not only sells coffee but sells Gin too. The Old Bakehouse. And we have pubs galore. We do recommend to book in advance, especially in peak season.

Local Attractions
You couldn't come to Ludlow without visiting the Castle, which dates back to 1066 or one of our famous local markets, which is on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday selling lots of yummy local produce. On a Sunday it turns into a flea market. Both of which are a 5-minute walk from the house. In the centre of the town is the Ludlow Assembly Rooms, which dates back to 1840, a vibrant arts and community centre, with cinema and live shows. A must-visit is the Ludlow Farm Shop which is a one-of-a-kind shopping environment where farming, passion for great food and retail come together to create an award-winning experience. If you like beer, the Ludlow Brewing company is worth a visit and is only a 10-minute walk. We also have Ludlow Racecourse, which is a great day out. Being based in beautiful South Shropshire Hills, which has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have plenty of walks. Check out shropshirehillsaonb.co.uk or visit The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. In Ludlow, we have Mortimer Forest where every Saturday at 9 am we have the park run. If you are not feeling as energetic as that, then there are plenty of trails to meander around. Mortimer Forest has some great walks and Stokesay CAstle is not far. .

Truly a magical transport back in time
I don’t know where to begin; certainly not at the beginning, we would be here too long considering the house dates back to the 14th century. If you are looking for something that screams old world and yet, maintains modern conveniences, this is for you. I am glad I had a kettle for my tea as opposed to swinging a pot over an open fire, though it still feels like you could be doing just that. Ludlow itself is an amazing little market town, replete with great food and awesome people. The house seems to fit right in with that paradigm. Old in all the right places to provide charm and a glimpse of history, and yet new where it counts. My wife and I are avid fans of escape to the country which we get on Britbox here in the US, and sitting in that house made us feel as though we were on the show. It was the perfect accommodation for a perfect stay. Only 1 mile from the train station, which meant easy access to getting there and venturing out to places like Shrewsbury and Hereford on day trips. The market is just up the road, as are plenty of quaint shops and eateries. What I am trying to say is that it is not merely quaint and comfortable, but also convenient. Lovely home, even on a cold and rainy day in the UK countryside with all the amenities of home.
