The space
The Location:
Just a 2-hour drive from Washington, D.C., you'll find our Hideaway in the tranquil town of Lottsburg, VA. From our private dock, gaze out at the beautiful Maryland shoreline just 4 miles across the water, or witness the awe-inspiring convergence of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. Fishing enthusiasts will love the opportunity to catch drum, bluefish, rockfish, and some of the largest blue crabs right off the dock (in season, of course!). Feel like paddling out into the calm waters? We’ve got kayaks ready for you. For boaters, the Lewisetta marina with ramp access is just 5 minutes away.
Renovated in October 2024, every detail of our home was carefully designed with your comfort in mind. We’ve yet to find another vacation spot on the Northern Neck that offers this level of amenities paired with such stunning views.

Other things to note
HISTORY: George Washington was born and lived his first three years at a large farm on the Northern Neck where you can visit and experience beautiful views of the tidewater lands similar to what George would have experienced. It’s a wonderful place to learn about Washington’s upbringing and future as a Virginia gentleman farmer.
Visit Reedville, where Maine sea captain Elijah Reed purchased the land in 1874 and began the menhaden fishing industry. Its location on a peninsula, jutting into Cockrell’s Creek, with a deep harbor and quick access to the Chesapeake Bay, made Reedville an ideal fishing port. The menhaden industry was so lucrative the town, with only 500 inhabitants, was once known as the wealthiest town in the United States. The lovely site, along with a large Visitor Center, recreations of the homestead, natural trails and our favorite spot – the Reedville Fisherman’s Museum.
ENTERTAINMENT CENTER: But what if it rains? No worries as the home is close to the new "Compass" Center, with 6 screen movie theater, go-carts, mini-golf, and rock climbing. The movie theater seats are some of the most comfortable we have ever seen. Drive 30 min. to the larger town of Kilmarnock for shopping and more dining options.
STATE PARKS: There are also 3 Virginia State Parks along the shoreline of the Northern Neck—Caledon and Westmoreland border the Potomac River, and Belle Isle hugs the Rappahannock River to the south. All are certainly worth checking out.
Now some specifics:
IMPORTANT: Please note that this is a residential community that has some vacation rentals, it is not a vacation community and the cottage is a home, not an investment property. Please be respectful of the neighbors. People buy here for the peace and quiet. This is a vacation best suited to those who seek the same.
Water: Swimming is at your own risk. Never jump or dive off a dock. There are known to be large rocks in the Potomac River that can be extremely dangerous.
HOT TUB: The hot tub is private and use is at your own risk. There are very specific rules regarding its use; it is expensive to maintain and to fix. Failure to adhere to the posted rules and any other rules communicated here may result in a monetary claim to cover any related expenses, downtime, and inconvenience. Please, no food or drinks in the tub. Do not sit on the sides and keep the cover on the side between the tub and the privacy wall when using – do not put it in the grass. When not using, please return the cover and ensure it is buckled into place as the winds can be strong coming off the water. Thanks for your understanding and we hope you enjoy the hot tub.
Kayaks: Please keep them on the kayak rack next to the house while not in use. Do not leave them on the dock or the beach unattended. The winds and tides can change quickly and will carry them away. We have provided adult and child size life jackets for your use.
Bunk Beds: Use of the bunk beds is at your own risk.
Grill and Griddle: they are connected to the gas tank, so please do not attempt to move them. Please clean after each use.
