The worse experience I've had in 20 years of staying in London!
I had booked a room at 4:30pm, but upon arriving 8 hours later that day, I was informed that my room was unavailable due to a “maintenance issue”.
I had booked the room specifically because I had an early meeting at Tottenham Court Road the next morning, and needed to be nearby. There were tube strikes so wanted to get into London ahead of time.
Upon arriving at the hotel I was asked to sit and wait for 20 minutes without any information. When I was finally spoken to, I was told that my room was unavailable, but not to worry, we’ve got you a room at another hotel.
However, this hotel was across the other side of London – with no Tubes running, and without being provided any transportation. I was trying to work out how I was going to get there at 1am in the morning when the employee faced me and said “what are you still doing here?”.
There was a total lack of empathy or understanding. I can’t imagine what it would have been like to have left someone vulnerable in that position.
Having finally arrived at the other hotel, I managed just a few hours sleep before having to get up early to make my way back to Tottenham Court Road for an early morning meeting.
