Summary:
Welcome to our stunning house with garden in Battersea where you will feel comfortably at home and experience the city like a local.
The Space:
The house is a 1970s style terraced house in a safe area which is close (walkable in five minutes) to shops (supermarkets, launderette, French, Indian, Thai, Italian, Persian, Pizza, Argentinian and other restaurants, coffee bars and craft-beer pub).
It doesn't look much from the outside, but we have put a lot of thought and love into the inside - and we love the result. The real beauty about our house is its location - a ten-minute walk to both Clapham Common (tube - Northern Line) or Clapham Junction (mainline trains). There are buses direct to the west end, Vauxhall, Westminster, Waterloo, Soho, Chelsea and Victoria. Outside the congestion charge zone, parking is possible outside, but you have to pay and get a ticket from a machine nearby. Parking is free at weekends. During the week the restrictions are 9.30am -5.30pm. "Boris Bikes" at the end of the road.
It is perfect for those who want a nicer-quality central place to base themselves whilst visiting London, but which won't break the bank.
Bedroom 1: standard sized double room: 200 cm x 160 cm (Queen Continental) bed, deep, firm, orthopaedic mattress (very comfortable). Cotton bed linen and feather duvet and pillows, Bedside drawers, built-in wardrobes, chest of drawers. USB charging points, plugs and LED lightning. Double blackout blinds in case you want a long lay-in.
Bedroom 2: Large double room. 200 cm x 140 cm (Standard double) bed, deep, firm, orthopaedic mattress (very comfortable). Cotton bed linen and feather duvet and pillows, Bedside drawers, built-in wardrobes, chest of drawers. USB charging points, plugs and LED lightning. Desk space available on request. Blackout blind as it gets sun in the morning.
Bedroom 3: Single "box" room (usually our office) with small but comfortable bed (memory foam mattress but no headboard). Fine for single person/child.
Bathroom: Modern and recently refurbished bathroom, LED lighting, power shower inside large bath. Second shower built into the tap for washing hair etc. Large wall-mounted radiator.
Kitchen/Diner/Lounge: Large open-plan area with kitchen, wooden island (built-in USB charging points), under-stairs cupboards, real wooden flooring. Two large leathers sofas in the lounge with large screen TV mounted on the wall. Virgin TV with TiVo Box, Netflix and Blu-ray player. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, knives, chopping boards, glasses, crockery and cutlery.
We wanted the garden to be a bit different - so despite being a small urban garden in central London, it is one of the nicest parts of the house. Decking built around an olive tree, a vine and Wisteria on the back wall, and lots of rosemary, lavender and Lilly makes the garden fragrant on summer evenings. It's perfect for a BBQ or to doze on hot summer days. A Chiminea means you can keep warm in the evenings if it is a little chillier, but you still want to sit outside.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire property during their stay.
The Neighborhood:
A mixed residential area behind two main north/south and east/west roads. Quiet (mostly) and very central (you can be in Westminster/West End/Victoria in 20 mins by bus, or 15 mins by Uber). Very close to Clapham Common (Northern Line Tube) and Clapham Junction (mainline train).
The area is slowly gentrifying, so we now have a "hip" new independent coffee bar two minutes walk away, our favourite French restaurant less than a minute away, two other French restaurants three minutes and ten minutes away respectively, Indian, Thai, Italian, Chinese, and Argentinian restaurants all locally - and buses into Soho, Chelsea and the Kings Road just outside.
There is on-road parking outside which usually has free spaces, but you will need to buy permits in advance as the ticket machine will only issue tickets for 4 hours maximum.
Getting Around:
Very close to tube and mainline stations (walkable if no luggage). Parking outside and Tube ten mins walk. Buses to all parts of central London from outside. Parking outside is usually available but not free of charge.
