First, the location is great! Short walk to Covent Garden and very close to the Holborn Underground station. It is also walkable to other popular areas including Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. The hotel employees were all friendly. The lobby was clean and welcoming. There is a cute lounge area with books and a chess set just upstairs from the lobby area. The rooms (specifically the Executive rooms) were very clean, comfortable and spacious! Breakfast was pricey but we opted out. There is a Caffe Nero coffee shop a few steps down the street. There is a convenience store and Honest Burgers also right outside the door. If you need an ATM for cash or a grocery store, Sainsbury’s is a 3 minute walk. I hope to stay here again!

I anm a frequent and seasoned traveller. Been round the world 4 times last year. I love staying and reviewing hotels. August is the only time I could stay home in England and I have arranged a few staycations and this is one of them. A stone throw from the bussing Covent Garden here in Central London, Middle Eight looks grand comparing to the rest of the neighbourhood. So I had a high expectation for the stay. The front of house team is very welcoming but I think they are too busy during this peak time and being a bit forgetful. The bell boy who led me to the check in desk while offering a welcome drink but without actually bringing me one. The glass in my suite has lip stick mark on it. The body lotion in my room is missing… other than that the room the pillow the bed is very comfortable. But I am not sure if what I have received is worth the price I was paying.

If you are used to 5 star hotels from major brands, this hotel will not live up to your expectations. The room is comfortable, but the housekeeping is lacking and the service received on the front desk atrocious. I complained that they do not provide water in the room and the guy in a black suit and ginger hair couldn’t even be bothered to speak to me, I had a helpful bell boy helping me. Even though I complained, they never provided water in the room for all three days I was there… this is a 5 star hotel basic! The staff in the restaurant are nice - good bunch. Housekeeping is very slow. You could go out for 6 hours and the room would still not be made up. The onus in this hotel is for you, the customer, to tell them what you want and need. Not 5 star stuff at all. There are far better hotels in London, and I wouldn’t stay here again. Also I don’t know who designed the bathroom, but they randomly have a blue sink in there, just strange.

Refined & Comfortable
The hotel is in good condition, despite the mishap that has befallen the glass above the front door. It feels refined, it’s light, it’s airy, it’s clean. There are good facilities for a city break, but not somewhere I’d recommend for children. For those of us without children it’s a professional feeling hotel, with a superb mezzanine workspace to put in a morning’s work before meetings and a nice restaurant & bar on the ground floor. The rooms are stylish, comfortable and well appointed. They’re very technological, with touch panels and remote control access rather than the usual switches. The only issue found was a lack of Air-Conditioning, which, on the hottest day of the year was a little troublesome. Still, this issue was eventually fixed and we were able to cool down - but find and report any issues before those Maintenance team members lock off for the evening or you’ll have to wait until the morning for a resolution! Overall, a fine hotel and one to return to when pickets feel deep, and opportunity presents.

A great night stay
Quick check in and we arrived early but room was available. Room was good, clean and had everything required. Quite small but adequate. View from window was of the roof and extractors but for one night it didn’t matter. Nice touch with complimentary water and soft drinks. Fresh milk for tea/coffee was great. Bed comfy. Air con is constantly on but we were advised if it was a problem, to phone reception and they would sort it. Only negative is cost of breakfast £25 + service charge if booked through reception in advance or £33 + service charge on the day. A bit steep so we didn’t have breakfast but went out to a cafe. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A good stay and would book again as the location for central London and tube is great.

Overheated Room and Aloof Service
Hotel we good in many ways but I'll not stay again for two reasons: First, the room was impossibly hot, disrupting sleep. In principle, it's possible to adjust the temperature using the 'Climate Control' function accessible through the TV, however this did nothing. Screen showed the temperature was 28C (that's over 82F), and although I repeatedly turned this down to 16C (61F), nothing happened. Another set of temperature controls are placed beside the bed, but again, these did nothing. Secondly, the check-in was burdensome. I'd already booked and paid for the room online, providing my details, so I couldn't understand why it then took 15mins to complete check-in on arrival with extra bits of paperwork. Also, at check-in and elsewhere, the service seemed to be cultivating a sense of aloofness, as if designed to impress visitors the place is high-end. I've stayed at places a lot further up the hospitality hierarchy than this, and the best always succeed in effortlessly making guests comfortable. Middle Eight seemed to be trying too hard. I work only 5mins away, so previously we've recommended Middle Eight to business visitors, but based on this occasion I'll recommend other options, of which there are many.
