The Killary Fjord has to be one of the most stunningly beautiful places on Earth.
Standing with our backs to Gaynor’s pub, one of several locations used to film the award winning movie the Field, we stood in awe of the scenery. We had just arrived and after lunch in Galway we drove through gorgeous hills and valleys of Eastern Connemara to arrive at this spot. “Where are we staying?” my travelling companion Kelli asked and as I turned around and pointed I said “There”! We were so excited to see the wonderful white walls of Portfinn Lodge just behind us. The lodge is spotlessly clean, the staff are welcoming and friendly, you have everything you need with some old-world charm. Perfect. But let’s not undermine its finest quality; location. The view from every window could be framed and put on the wall. Even the rear facing ones have incredible vistas of the mountains that tower over it. It is also perfectly located for all the lovely pubs, restaurants and little shop, literally two minutes walk down the little old path that divides it’s pristine front lawns. Among these amenities you’ll find everything you could possibly need to wine and dine on sea food from just a stones throw away, drink a perfect pint of Guinness, shop for local produce, use the little post office or sit in the perfectly lovely Purple Door Café with a coffee, breakfast or lunch. But having eaten your delicious Portfinn Lodge breakfast, you’ll probably be too full. Thank you Portfinn 5⭐️
