Overall, a really great stay! Would like to give 4.5 stars! Location is extremely convenient and close to subway and bus stations. You can walk to Nishiki market easily, and there is a lot of great shopping and restaurants in the area. I love walking, so I was able to walk from the hotel to Gion area in 30 minutes. The Japanese breakfast each day was also a great addition. They change the sides each day. If you’re more into a Western breakfast, then I wouldn’t opt in for breakfast here. It’s Japanese breakfast is far superior. Staff is friendly and helpful as well. Highly recommend especially considering price point and location!

A pleasant hotel. Nothing to fancy but nice. Enjoyed the generous portion of complimentary Sake in the lobby nightly. Beds were comfortable and rooms were adequate. Best part was the neighborhood - it is a bit off the usual tourist path and excellent food options in walking distance!

During our trip to Japan, Tokyu Stay Kyoto Sanjo-Karasuma was the most modern location we stayed at. From the lobby to the rooms, the finishes and surfaces throughout the hotel were luxurious and inviting. Staff were extremely friendly, even so far as going out of their way to ensure that we were prepared for our day with umbrellas or jackets upon seeing us. Our room was rather spacious to accommodate 3 of us visiting, and the bathroom was a comfortable size. I highly recommend staying at any Tokyu Stay during your trip to Japan!

Be careful if you book here, there are hidden fees for children! Anyone over the age of 6 is considered an adult!! Andddd it incurs additional charges! A plus is there are washer/dryer combo in your room but there are no instructions in English! So it’s really difficult to use successfully, we couldn’t get the dryer to dry our clothes.

The location was great. Close to public transport and also walking distance to many good restaurants and Nishiki market. The room was spacious and the tub was nice for our 11 month old daughter.

Good location near a subway station with direct links to Kyoto station. Easily walkable to a few attractions too. Downside was we didn’t get our towels replaced despite asking for it via the magnetic door signs provided. Room was a little dated with damaged furniture. Lots of dust beside washer/dryer and over appliances, and burn marks on the bathroom surfaces from previous guests’ stays presumably. There was also a very strong smell of damp in the room which didn’t leave for the three days we stayed. Overall an okay experience for a budget hotel - nothing offensive, but I’ve had far better stays for similar prices in other hotels in the past. Wouldn’t recommend.

The bathroom had a bit of a smell to it, but having a washer and dryer was clutch. The room was pretty spacious and the bed was a little firm, but still comfortable. In a good location, a bit of a quieter part of town, but still a lot to see and do.

I liked this hotel as I was able to easily walk to Sanjo street where the shops/restaurants were amazing. Mainly the food spots. You can also easily go to Nishiki market if I spelt that right plus other market/streets by foot. I loved Kyoto as a city with all the cycling that takes place by adults and kids. As for the hotel, after checking in you have to go to a separate building for the rooms which I’ve never seen before so it was a bit weird and not convenient but the building is secure where you do have to use your key card to enter that building and also use it to access the area to the elevator/1st floor. So they do have safety measures. They have Sake shots for you that goes from 5:30-8 j believe. Once you get to the room, there was a luggage storage area that came in real handy so we can put them out the way. There is also a sink in the room, kettle and cooking equipment if you wanted to take advantage of that(I didn’t). One of the beds for the 3 person room was just a very small mattress if you can even call it that on the floor, but they are very accommodating and delivered a 2nd one within minutes to my room and that made it a lot better and I slept with no issues after that. The staff here are nice and the bathroom I really loved. The shower is right above your head and this made showering so relaxing. They also have a bath there if needed. The toilet was separate from the shower room so that makes things better for non solo/partner travelers.

Highly recommend for families
Highly recommend this hotel when visiting Kyoto. We were visiting Japan for the first time with our 9 month old son and the stay couldn’t have been better. Our room had a microwave and washing machine which is super convenient when travelling with kids. Room was also quite large for Japan and the free coffee was a great bonus.

We love the room, the ambiance of the hotel. But unfortunately its really hard when u beed help from front desk receptionist. You need go to main wings building and the phone wasn’t connect to receptionist. They didnt check and fill up the bath soap even we already put the sign and take iut the bottle from bathroom.
