The hotel is a bit old. You can see the wallpaper slightly tearing off. The walls are thin and you can hear the neighbor’s TV sounds. But overall the location is great and is very close to all the activities in Kyoto.

What a gem! Celestine Gion is an amazing property in a historical and quaint neighborhood. There is plenty to do (e.g., temples, shrines, bakeries, tea houses, restaurants etc.) within walking distance and coming back to the hotel after sightseeing in the heat of August was pure bliss. As soon as you step in, there's a feeling of total serenity. The fragrance used in the lobby was an absolute favorite for our family of 4 and we ended up buying related products to bring home. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with plenty of toiletries, nice teas, coffees etc. We made good use of the public bath (sento) - it was the perfect place to relax after a busy day. They do offer free guided walks on certain days and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The shuttle service to the train station was also very convenient. And finally, a special thanks to the personnel. Always welcoming, attentive and courteous - they made our stay in Kyoto very memorable and we look forward to going back.

Perfect location and professional staff and servic
Staff were very professional and friendly. We had to head back to Tokyo one day early due to typhoon. They understood our situation and gave us the refund for the last day even though it was a last minute decision to leave early. The rooms were clean and had very comofortable bed. The location of this hotel was perfect as well. We will consider staying other Celestine hotels in Japan because of the experience that we had at this hotel in Kyoto.
