It is a historic accommodation being over 700 years, i expected the vintage kind of facilities. I came to Arima for the hot springs, this hotel has the greatest public and private baths. I enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner.
I discovered they offer Tea ceremony between 9am to 10am to hotel guests while taking with a japanese return guest, wish the receptionist will inform me with this upon check-in so i wont miss out oj this opportunity.
This property does take some effort to get to. But the stay was pleasant. Buffet was delicious and onsen baths were amazing. The ryokan experience is very interesting and comfortable for us. Staff were very helpful. One thing to mention is it is not very tattoo-friendly. They politely ask you to cover tattoos in common areas, including restaurants.
Arrival - My stay at the Hyoe Koyokaku was exceptional from check-in to checkout. I arrived at the property about two hours early as my family and I wanted to sightsee around town and get some lunch. The associates downstairs and at the front desk were more than helpful in assisting us check in our luggage and guide us to the car park which is just a few steps away from the main entrance.
Check in - Upon check-in a few hours later we were told that we had complimentary upgrade from our original booked room (West Bldg-Deluxe Kaiseki Kobe Beef Dinner in Room w/ buffet breakfast) to the nicer and more expensive ($75 a night increase) North Building. The larger room also included a massage chair which was used by both my wife and I and was a nice treat.
Room - My video review of the room can be seen on Youtube at the following link - https://youtu.be/iDSXgngullI - or search "Hyoe Koyokaku Hotel Review" on Youtube. Overall the room was spacious while being comfortable and clean in addition to having a nice view of the onsen town.
Onsen - The onsen baths in the hotel were great and featured a nice variety of both indoor and outdoor baths. No need to bring any towel from your room, as both the wash towel and body towel are provided along with all the usual amenities like combs, razors, q-tips, etc. down in the baths.
Dinner - Dinner was served in room and was fantastic and quite honestly one of the best ones I've had while staying at Ryokans in Japan. We ordered some drinks ahea
That was a wonderful stay! And we're happy to be upgraded to the north building.
Staff were super friendly, helpful, and polite! Very impressive that they would arrange welcome tea and someone to take us to the room. Onsen was amazing. Food was excellent. We were surprised to see that the dinner was ready when we got back to our room! That was a very comfortable stay. Love the room, the view, and the amenities. We'd choose to be back if we're visiting the area again.
This is the first time we stay in an onsen hotel. That’s the best experience of our Japan trip. Hotel is very clean and staffs are very nice. The kaiseiki dinner we had in the hotel room was amazing. We rented the private onsen, which was a great experience. We look forward to come back to this hotel.
The staffs of the hotel are profession, nice and friendly. The location of the hotel is very convenient to access to the subway train station, bus stop, shopping and sightseeing. Dinner and breakfast are super delicious!
Loved my 1st onsen experience. Staff were hugely welcoming, excellent layout of hotel. Loved the Japanese traditional tatami & futon bedroom, complimentary snacks and daily green tea & sweet experience. The 3 onsens where excellent, clean & offered a huge range of toiletries to use. The traditional in room multiple course dinner was amazing with Kobe beef! I would definitely visit again!
I highly recommend this Hotel Koyokaku to all the travellers to Arima onsen. The location is convenient, the staff are nice and responsive, and room we stayed is comfort and specious. My family members were enjoyed staying at this Hotel.
To westerners, be open to a very different kind of experience, especially for the Onsen (shared public bath) and an authentic traditional Japanese buffet breakfast (good quality food served). Highly recommended to have the Kaiseki dinner in your room. We love the quietness, hospitality and walking around in Yukata (a form of traditional casual wear in a Ryokan). Best time for the Onsen is before your dinner time. Must try the Onsen!
We stay for a night for the hot spring. dinner and breakfast were included. the staff was so caring and attentive that once I told them I am pregnant they immediately suggested change of my menu which is few week before our stay. They are so prompt in responding and great communication.
The dinner in the room was fantastic and the breakfast was awesome. We love this place so much.
