ABOUT THE LOCAL AREA.
The famous coastal village of Thurlestone is renowned for its abundance of thatched pink and cream-washed cottages, its 13th Century church, the village shop and the traditional local inn. Backed by rolling farmland and a sprawling cliff top golf course, the village is ideally situated for those wanting to explore the locality, especially with the benefit of the South Devon Heritage path which runs through Thurlestone.
There are two main beaches at Thurlestone. The smaller of these, Thurlestone Sands, is near to The Thurlestone golf club and at the Southern end of the beach, you can explore the rock pools around the spectacular arched rock to which the village owes its name. The larger beach is further along the coast in the direction of South Milton. Both have fine shingle and sand coverings and are in sheltered locations. Surfing, windsurfing and canoeing are all popular activities at the beach and, during the summer months, a range of sports equipment can be hired. There are many other beaches to explore along this beautiful coastline, including Hope Cove, Bigbury and Bantham. Nearby attractions include Salcombe, (famous for sailing), Agatha Christie's Burgh Island, historical market towns of Totnes and Modbury, Dartmouth, Dittisham and Dartmoor.
