Cosy Norfolk Cottage

Dating back over 200 years, Half Penny Cottage has been tastefully restored by the owners to maintain the charm and period features that you would expect to find in a cottage with such impressive heritage, while ensuring that all the modern conveniences remain, which are required for a great stay. The cottage is set in the picturesque village of Docking. It is constructed of local Norfolk flint, faced with mellow Holkham brick, and boasts exposed oak beams in many of the rooms, along with an open fire in the living room. Docking itself is within a quiet conservation area, just 6 miles from the bustling village of Burnham Market and 4 miles from Brancaster, with its beautiful beach. Beach lovers will be very pleased that they’ve chosen this part of Norfolk, as the stretch of coastline that runs from Wells-next-the-Sea, with it’s picturesque quay to Snettisham, with it’s RSPB Nature Reserve, is blessed with numerous beaches, quays and marshes, offering a new seascape for every day. There are lots of pretty coastal villages, offering great places to eat and drink and little artisan shops. Those seeking all the fun of the fair should head to Hunstanton, known locally as ’Sunny Hunny’, where the beach seems to go on forever, and you will find a Sealife Centre, traditional seaside amusements and a small fun fair. Heritage lovers will also be spoilt for choice with The Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall, Blickling Hall, the Old Quarter of hanseatic Kings Lynn and Norwich, with its numerous museums and Norman Castle, all within easy reach. Those who know Norfolk will also know that it presents the opportunity for some of the best birdwatching in the UK. When you add in glorious coastal walks and great cycle routes, you will soon see why Royal Norfolk remains as popular as ever and indeed why Half Penny Cottage is such a hit with guests. Beach 4 miles. Shop ¾ mile, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
During your stay at this cottage, you'll be close to Bircham Windmill. A kitchen and 3 bathrooms are available in the cottage.
  • The cottage offers a kitchen, a washing machine, and 3 bathrooms
  • Just a 5-minute drive from Norfolk Coast and 14 minutes from Sandringham House
This cottage offers its guests barbecue grills and a garden. The front desk is open around the clock.

This King's Lynn cottage is smoke free.

Ha'penny Cottage
We found the property rather dark and a little worn. Neither of the televisions worked but fortunately my grandchildren love playing games. Very busy road which made it difficult to get the cars in and off the property. We had a most enjoyable stay in the area with plenty to do but would not return to this property

Great for large families
Spacious, clean and well equipped, comfy beds and enough bathrooms to keep everyone happy. Really appreciated the board games for the day the weather was not so good. Really minor improvements would be pint glasses for the men, a long cable to make the snug room tv internet connected and for all the beds to be made up not just the number fir persons staying so we can chosewhi sleeps where (one of the singles didnt have sheets on presumably as we were 7 staying in an 8 berth cottage). Overall good quality well equipped accommodation.

A little disappointed
Crockery and cutlery, etc. needed washing before use. Cooker proved a challenge! Unable to get 1 TV to work other than video. Looked extremely tired - shared bathroom upstairs needs work on tiling at back of basin. Shabby chic look in kitchen doesn't work. The whole place looked like it needed a really good spring clean. But good location and great pub at Stanhoe.

Enjoyed our stay very much. 7 occupants with plenty of room. Wednesday market at the village hall worth a visit, lovely goodies. Village shop had all required and church a nice place to visit. Recommend Aviator restaurant in Sculthorpe. Property central to Norfolk so easy access to all areas of interest.

Family break
Just returned from a lovely week away staying in Half penny cottage. Great location, good local amenities used shop, pub and chip shop. Ease of access to coast and local attractions. A couple of points - the hot was extremely hot ! and a few more mugs and larger glasses may be helpful for next parties. Overall we all had a great time and wonderful holiday. Thankyou

Enjoyable Stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Halfpenny cottage. Location was good, great chippy just up road. Cottage very clean and comfortable. Was concerned about the road but wasn’t a problem and quiet at night. Plenty of room for our family to spread out. Will definitely be returning. Thank you 😊

Lovely cottage.
This was a lovely cottage. It was clean and comfortable. It was a pity it is on a main road with side garden, though traffic intermittent and not heavy at night. Parking was limited especially as we had two cars. Docking is in a good location for getting to places all over north Norfolk. Only shop in village a mile away.

Spacious cottage in central location
Lovely cottage full of character and very well equipped. Spacious rooms and spotlessly clean with lots of homely touches. Centrally located with all attractions in North Norfolk easily accessible. Our party of friends had a wonderful short break here and coming back after long chilly days out and about, lighting the fire and settling down for evening with a glass of wine was pure bliss! We are hoping to to return soon

Authentic Norfolk cottage but with lots of space..might seem trivial but mirrors cater for giants only!Downstairs shower could be a bit sloppy and would benefit from a grab rail.

Lovely cottage, full of amenities
Very clean and hospitable - the cottage sparkled when we arrived and the goodies left for us were a bonus and a nice touch; thank you Phil. The bedrooms were all a decent size, and it was nice that the two twin rooms had nothing to choose between them - no squabbles! There was plenty of storage space in the bedrooms too. Beds were all very comfortable. It is obvious that the bathrooms had been recently refurbished to a high standard. Downstairs, it was nice to have two lounges, especially since we had a very young baby with us. I can imagine that families with young-ish children would like the games console and tv in that room too. We used the garden for parking, as suggested, although coming out onto the busy road was sometimes tricky. We also liked the fact that we could come in on the tiled surface at the back door, rather than through the carpeted front, so it was not messy. Good number of bathrooms and showers (though downstairs shower controls stay permanently on 'hot', no matter what dials you turn). The kitchen was very well equipped indeed. It was good to see that the property had a large fridge and freezer suitable for the number of people. Once we got the hang of the induction hob that was good too - very quick to cook on. Dishwasher was much appreciated. Washer and tumble dryer also handy. We recommended in the guest book that maybe the owners could consider lining the curtains in the bedrooms with thicker material, as the sun shone in very strongly in the mornings. Another easy fix that would improve visitor experiences would be to provide more lighting in the dining room, which was very gloomy. It was close to Sandringham, various beaches, a few railway lines and some lovely heath (we recommend Roydon Common). There was only really one walk we could do from the door. Our one down side from this excellent property (much bigger than it looks from the front!) is something that the owners cannot change - the busy road outside. It is a main road and a lot of heavy farming and construction traffic goes along this at all times of day, as well as lots of cars (there is a huge construction college a couple of miles away). It turns out that Docking is a bit of a transport hub. This woke quite a few of our party up most mornings if their windows were open (our holiday was during the heat wave, so we had to have them open). Apart from this manic road, we had no real issues. We enjoyed our two weeks in Norfolk.

lovely cottage, lovely village
we have had a very relaxing week in this cottage. Lots of character, very well stocked with comfy sofas, beds, and all the kitchen equipment you need. plenty of books, games and dvds to choose from if needed. The walled garden was dog friendly, and not overlooked. If I had to find a downside, it would be that there is nowhere in the village to let the dog have a run off lead, and the road outside the cottage is manic at times with very large tractors, lorries and coaches. It could do with some sort of traffic calming enforcement. Saying that we took the dog to Sandringham, where you can park for free and is a lovely place to give the dog a run and enjoy the park.

Cosy well equipped cottage conveniently situated for beaches and other resorts.
Enjoyed our stay very much. Burnham Market was well worth a visit. Very nice restaurants and shops. Brancaster Beach very good and enjoyed a day in Wells. Excellent fish and chips from Docking. The welcome basket in cottage containing apple juice, wine and cake was a nice gesture as well as milk in fridge to make a cup of tea. Also spent a day in Hunstanton.

We had a lovely week at the cottage.
The cottage was well equipped and we were very comfortable. It had everything we needed. The only problem was the TV - the signal was not consistent which meant you could not really watch the TV. Difficult also to get mobile phone signal everywhere in the house. Some of the party were ok but some were not.

Halfpenny, but not half-measures.
Great cottage, lots of space, plenty of crockery etc for the number of guests. Safe enclosed garden for children and dogs. Garden a nice little sun trap and a great 'snug' room which opens up to the garden. A good place for exploring North Norfolk. Owner very helpful.

The cottage was cosy, comfortable and well equipped. Appreciated the logs etc at the beginning of the week but by mid week we were enjoying the hottest April in 70 yrs. Lovely week and will definitely recommend the cottage to friends and family.

Cozy, yet spacious with everything you need.
Party of six staying for 3 nights in November whilst working at the Sandringham Xmas Fair. The cottage had everything we needed. The open fire was very welcome at this time of year with plenty of logs and kindling supplied. Plenty of shower facilities for us all with water constantly hot. Wouldn't hesitate staying again. Thankyou Phil.
