Thornthwaite itself lies at the south western end of Bassenthwaite Lake, below Whinlatter Forest, Barf and Lords Seat. Sailing and fishing are available on Whinlatter. There are pubs, restaurants and a shop nearby in Braithwaite and a wealth of amenities in Keswick including the ’Theatre by the Lake’.
