I have to admit, a couple of the reviews were very oblique in their criticism, but that does not make up for walking into the kitchen and having your feet stick to the floor; or the popcorn under the couch or even the shower that smelled like a locker room. I don't know what they're using the cleaning fee on, but it wasn't at all clean.
Then there's the pictures; those were clearly taken when the unit was new, because it is in serious need of repair, upkeep and refurbishment. I talking about big chunks of wallpaper peeling off in the bathroom; cabinet doors that won't shut; curtains coming off the rails in the bedroom; both smoke detectors missing (fire code violation); a rusted-out broken garbage can in the kitchen; broken switch on bedside lamp and wine glasses with finger prints and lip marks. Although the air conditioner in the bedroom worked, the A/C in the living room was broken. The management company had put a portable unit in the living room, but it blew hot air out the back and could only be run if the slider was open to vent. The slider to the patio even fell off the rails! The final insult was the WiFi didn't work. I reset the modem, but then the password didn't work. By then I was just done.
First tried to call the number listed for Cleaning & Supply needs - no answer and "mailbox not set up". Then I called the Host, Sarah Corbett, although initially conciliatory, she stated she would send out a cleaning crew; but she couldn't get me off the phone fast enough, to the point of being snippy, when I started listing the maintenance problems and politely requested different accommodations. A short time later, I received a message from her that she had spoken to VRBO and I was to contact them with "documentation".
After speaking to the lovely people at VRBO and sending my pictures, they put us up at a hotel for the rest of our trip. I guess I had enough documentation.
We have used VRBO many times and have never come across such an extreme case of property neglect. It is worth noting that the Host made no attempt to recontact us by phone, and only sent one more brief message wanting to know what we told VRBO.
