The Attic | Historic Home in Hurricane

Built in the 1920s, this Historic home in charming downtown Hurricane Utah is just a short drive to Zion National Park. This unit offers a glimpse of a by-gone era of early struggles and adventure. This home has been updated into a modern vacation home experience. This unit is the old 'attic' and features a cozy queen bed, a kitchenette & 3/4 bath plus a living room with futon sofa. (Photos updated May 2024) Tastefully updated and decorated to help you enjoy your stay. Where this home was build and modified over time, it does share the heating and cooling system with the lower unit. As such we have also added a stand alone AC unit and portable heaters so you can control your climate. At the back of the building, common area, is a large covered patio with BBQ, picnic table and hot tub (shared with the downstairs guest )

Due to its age, there are unique characteristics that one should be mindful of - first is the home was built when electricity was considered a luxury and was not common in So. Utah. This home was also designed and built before the concept of indoor plumbing. Modifications to add outlets, adjust walls for a modern bathroom working with the building materials and construction techniques of that era do make for some challenges. The homes location on the lot also is unique in that it is not set back from the road by 20-25 feet. The home has never moved, but as the community grew and needs of modern transportation changed, the roads have encroached on it. But this is the charm and experience this property offers.

This home has its roots in early polygamy history of the area as well as a farmhouse and early 'garage' for model A's and T's as the automobile made its way west. As the city and area grew its been a retail store front on the highway on your way to Zion National Park. Its last commercial venture was as an old army surplus and camping gear and outfitter shop. In recent history before the current owners bought it this property was painted a bright yellow and blue and was known as the 'sunshine' home. Today we've updated it as best we can without compromising its character. We added a fire suppression system and integrated smoke detection systems, we've added a modern laundry facility and a shared hot tub to relax in after hiking or biking.

The bedroom has a comfy queen bed and sleeps 1-2 persons.

In the living room is the kitchenette and a futon sofa bed. It is a full size but we suggest that it only sleeps 1 person.

There is no door dividing the two areas.

Common Space

The property has a separate 2 bedroom suite below (rented separately) that shares common area space. In this space is the laundry facility as well as the hot tub deck and bbq grill/picnic table. The units main Heating/Cooling is controlled by the lower unit. Therefore we have provided the fireplace (Elec. Heater) and a separate AC unit in addition so you can control your climate. You may need to open or close floor vents accordingly.

IMPORTANT NOTES & ADVISORY:

This unit you are looking at is part of a DUPLEX concept and is located in a micro-resort known as Pass Port Village. The resort currently consists of 2 separate duplex type buildings. Located in the front is a pioneer home, consisting of 2 units. The lower unit is the Roost, and the upper is The Attic (Your Unit). The Attic has low ceilings. IF you are a tall person, you may notice it more. Short people love it! Each unit is 100% private from the other. Seperate entrances, private bathrooms etc. The second building, located to the rear is a new duplex, with ample parking between the buildings. The lower unit is the On the Rocks listing and the upper unit is known as the Silver Reef listing. We are starting a project to the south, where a shared community pool and 2 additional duplex units will be built as well as a restoration on an existing building into a pool house.

Planning a family reunion or traveling with a larger group? Check out our listing "Passport Resort" for a combined, unforgettable experience!

We are doing all we can to advise guests, in advance, about this property. We are amazed at how many people do not read the full description of a property before booking, then to read their reviews reflecting their amazement at how they point out all the items we addressed in the listing that they could experience - then we take a beating in our reviews. PLEASE READ THE LISTING before booking, then read the reviews and you will see MANY PEOPLE have come and had great experiences and appreciated this unit for what it is, and have not given low rates for what it is not. We value and love feedback on how we can deliver an experience for you and your group. Travel safe and enjoy your stay at the Attic!

worst experience ever
Avoid booking this place at all cost! Never got access to enter the place, called the property manager more than 30 times, never got an answer back. After flying and driving to get there found myself outside the property at 11:00 pm without access. The property manager said they are refunding the money, it's been 2 weeks, never got anything.

Great price close to Zion
Had a great time in Zion. If you are a tall person, this attic spot isn’t for you. Good price for getting rest after a day of hiking.

Not as it seems
This place is just the top unit of the house. If you’re tall like me you will hit your head multiple times moving throughout the unit. We never received check in or check out instructions. Finding someone to communicate with was a time consuming process. You’re not allowed to control the AC unit so if the guests downstairs are hot the heater will not come on, so they are basically in control of the temperature in both units. The water in the shower is not hot at certain times of day which really sucks. Both units have the same door code so there’s no real security. The location was convenient and there’s plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. I would not stay here again.

Stay at Atomic Love Shack
We stayed at the Atomic Love Shack in mid December. We checked in late Friday night so it was very cold. Air conditioner was on and there was only a small space heater. It took all night to heat up the small studio. No hot water. Spoke to Alyse the next morning. We went hiking all day and when we returned they had left a larger heater and hot water. Very responsive and helpful. We are already planning our next trip to Zions and will stay there again.

The crows nest
The crows nest was a great stay. Check in and check out instructions we’re clearly communicated through a link that the property managers shared a few days before check in. The link also included suggestions on local restaurants which we used as well as activities and shopping opportunities that were in town. Only drawback was the heating situation. The upstairs and downstairs unit share one thermostat that is located in the downstairs unit. The upstairs unit has a mobile ac unit which works fine. Just have to find the right balance to be comfortable. Overall great stay.

The Crow’s Nest
Overall a good stay. Hot tub was nice after hiking Zion all day. A little smaller than anticipated but not an issue. NEEDS MORE OUTLETS 😂 an extra power strip in the bedroom would go a long way!

Good price !!!
Price was good. If you struggle with car noise this is not a place you will want to stay. It is right on state street we used the remote ac unit to take away some of the road noise. Considering the price and the road noise, place was clean. We would stay there again.

Central Location to SO many amazing parks
Great location with easy drives to Zion, Kolob, Bryce, Escalante Grand Staircase, and several slot canyons. Hurricane was a great choice for other reasons, including: groceries, restaurants (including the amazing Muddy Bee Bakery), gas, ice, etc. Our unit was cozy and well-appointed. Clean and tidy. Very unique space in an old attic with nice updates. Great use of the space. Loved the blinds - no cords! Wish there had been a lamp (standing lamp would have been great). Overhead lighting was wonderful, but too bright if someone wanted to go to bed before the other. Loved the shower amenities, nice lotion, fluffy towels, etc. The outdoor hot tub was wonderful!!! Even with ambient light of town, star-gazing was really nice while soaking. The size and location were perfect for a 5-night stay to explore the area. The hot tub was a welcomed respite at the end of each day of hiking.

The description of this property needs to be better described. It's a two unit building, one downstairs and one upstairs. The stairs are hard for older adults. You share the hot tub with the other guests. The pull out is uncomfortable. There is no table and chairs to eat on. The bathroom had a sewer odor. There is no kitchen. Or kitchenet. No sink other then the bathroom sink. The fridge is in the bedroom.

Great little place
It’s in a good location. Close to Zion without having to pay Springdale prices for a room. Plenty of other parks like sand hollow and red cliffs are both within 15 min drive.

There were issues.
It was just OK, with a lot of caveats: There is construction going on right behind the building that started at 7 a.m. each morning we stayed. We were not informed of this upond booking or anytime afterward. This caused us to cut our stay a day short. There were no promised instructions to operate the hot tub and the hot tub was dirty! We called to complain and were told it would be serviced that day. It wasn't. One of the main reasons I booked the place was for use of the hot tub. Nada. The unit is located on the town's busiest road and on a blind curve. It's challenging getting into traffic and it's a loud road from 6 am until 10 pm at least. There was no warning of this in the listing. The unit itself is nice and well-equipped, but the futon/couch in the living room is really cheap/worn/dirty and uncomfortable to even sit on. The laundry room (free) and game room are nice as is the grill. But if you are over 5-foot-9, there are angles in the rooms and doorways that will be challenging. The only sink in the unit is in the bathroom, so doing any dishes is a challenge. The hot tub would be cool if it were clean and more privacy. The management company is just that and involves a certain level of beauracracy to deal with. Odd that they encourage you to rebook and skip using VRBO next time. Finally, while they did quickly refund a day's rent; they did not compensate me for lack of a usable hot tob for two days or the inconvenience of having to find a new, acceptable and more expensive place to stay for our third night in the region.
