“The Beach Tree House” is a brand new renovation of a 15 year old wooden cottage. Its extraordinary location, set in front of a copse and surrounded by trees, gives it the sort of tranquility you wouldn’t expect less than a mile from a traditional seaside town. Apart from the owners house at the bottom of the extensive garden, the nearest dwelling is at least 30 metres away across a meadow bank - it’s actually difficult to take a picture of the house that shows any other buildings! (To the north east, the nearest house is over 500 miles away, in Norway!)
Another strength is the wonderful views. Situated high on a hillside running up from the beach - the sea is 50 metres away - the house and the wide terrace face north, through the branches of a cedar tree to the wide expanse of sea. Both bedrooms and the terrace also have westerly views, showing what the painter William Turner described as “the best sunsets in Europe” as the sun goes down behind the dusty skies over London, 50 miles away.
Every summer evening, around sunset, up to 200 starlings murmurate around the house. Pigeons and of course sea gulls call and this year a blackbird has been singing its heart out from the top of the cedar.
The terrace leads down to a small shady private lawn under the cedar. Well equipped with outside furniture, including a hammock, there’s masses of opportunity for quiet outdoor relaxation; and then of course, there’s the beach, less than 30 metres away across a private cul de sac, used only by the few residents of Spa Esplanade.
This property is on a copse so it is only accessible via a number of steps (as shown in the photos), Unfortunately this means that the property is not suited to wheelchair access.'
It’s difficult to imagine a place so compact and yet so versatile; romantic enough for a honeymoon, tranquil and quiet enough to spawn poetry or a novel, close enough to the seaside for a happy family holiday - it can be whatever the guests want it to be.
