Tucked away in a quiet corner of Herefordshire are Monnington House, Garden Cottage and The Cider Mill providing a peaceful and private escape. The properties twelve large bedrooms and 12 bathrooms are spread out over three properties. A fabulous working kitchen, geared up for numbers and catering and a dining area which can accommodate up to 24 plus an alfresco dining area, are all located in the main house. Catering can be made available by arrangement. We carry forward a philosophy of hospitality: the feeling of staying in a family home surrounded by understated elegance and beauty. The properties enjoy private peaceful gardens and grounds of 2 acres.
All properties are supplied with high quality super king hypnos superking beds (zip
and link) with 400 count egyptian linen. These simple luxuries allow you to rest and restore. There is a ground floor bedroom in Garden Cottage. The Cider Mill is all on one level. The properties are full of books, plants, textiles and objects handpicked by the owner.
Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquility and beauty and yet is connected to many local activities, pubs and cafes and places to visit. There is a superb farm shop at the top of the lane. A short walk through the cider orchards is the River Wye
On site there is plenty to do - enjoy the large 2 acres of gardens and grounds which are private and quiet and play football on the huge playing field. For rainy days and winter nights enjoy the rustic table tennis room and the games room with pool table and table football in the outbuildings. Bring your fleece and wrap up!
There is wonderful walking straight from the door to suit all abilities and ages. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford Section of the Wye Valley Walk and also on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river guests love the Moccas Hill Wood National Nature Reserve where there is a large choice of walks and wonderful trees to admire. For those who like to get their heart racing a walk to Arthurs Stone from the house is a challenge and takes about 2 hours or drive to Hay on Wye and march up Hay Bluff.
During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests love fishing and can obtain passes from either Bulmers Angling Club or the Fishing Passport. Large group bookings often enjoy a full or half day canoeing or kayaking on the Wye which can include a suitable stop at a pub on the riverbank for lunch. Wild swimming is increasingly popular. We can put you in touch with an expert. There are 5 golf courses within reach of the house including Kington which is the highest golf course in England and has with fabulous views. Hereford Raceway is close to the house and offers go-karting which the whole family can enjoy. Hereford Squash Tennis and Racket club welcomes visitors. Many guests play tennis and padel. Trekking with the llamas in the Black Mountain is loved and should be booked well in advance and likewise riding in the Welsh Hills.
A visit to the market towns of Hay on Wye is loved by book lovers. For those who love a cathedral the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral is a must. There are still many independent shops in these towns and great galleries and cafes to visit. The Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington is nearby and loved by young and old. For garden lovers, there are plenty to visit including the National Trust Weir Gardens on the Wye only 4 miles away. It has a natural play area for children and spectacular views over the river. There are also plenty of interesting gardens to visit in the National Garden Scheme.
Monnington House welcomes groups from all over the UK and world. Geographically it is centrally based and is easily reached by our guests from the Midlands, Wales, West Country, Ireland, Scotland and Hone Counties. Happy memories are made here!
