HootOwl Cabin Mountains, Trails and Huge Hot Tub under the Stars!

Stay at the 'Hoot Owl' and enjoy a private, cozy and very charming cabin fully equipped with all the amenities and comforts of home! Just 3 miles from POINT LOOKOUT VINEYARDS!!! The Hoot Owl is close to trails, great for hiking and enjoying the outdoors. Hike to the top of chimnry rock for an unforgettable panoramic mountain view! Or walk past Hungry River located just across the road from the Hoot Owl. Enjoy the outside deck or sit by the large picture window and watch all that nature has to offer. Open your windows and enjoy a peaceful sleep with the sound of the rumbling river, or sit by the fireplace with a good book. The Hoot Owl offers family fun and enjoyment along with quiet hours of just pure relaxation!

The entrance to the cabin is through painted owl door, then up the steps to the front door. We have provided a house phone for our guests. There is Spectrum hi-speed Wi-Fi throughout the cabin.

Winter in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina not only has its own special beauty, but also offers a whole lot of fun! Make plans this winter to visit the ski resorts of Western North Carolina. No other state in the region can boast so many slopes and opportunities to have fun in the snow all winter long! Six ski resorts all within an hour to 2 hours away: Cataloochee Ski Area, Ski Sapphire, Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain and Appalachian Ski Mountain.

On your drive to the Hoot Owl, you will experience 'Apple Country' as Henderson County is the largest apple-producing county in North Carolina and grows 65 percent of the apples in the state. Today Henderson County and Edneyville is home to approximately 200 apple growers. There are about 5000 acres of apple trees planted in Henderson County. The apple harvest season runs from late August to late October.

For wine enthusiasts, the Hoot Owl is located just minutes from three local 'family owned' wineries. Point Lookout Vineyards, Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards and Burntshirt Vineyards, all family-owned with tasting rooms and wine available for purchase. These wineries all boast panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and vineyards. Sample the many varieties from wine grapevines, grown on the vineyards at elevations of 2,300 and 3,000 feet. Cool mountain nights create some of the best wine producing grapes in the country!

During your stay at the Hoot Owl, you will want to take 15 - 20 minute drive to the scenic towns of Bat Cave and Lake Lure. The lake is approximately 720 acres, with about twenty-one miles of shoreline. Take a narrated boat tour of the scenic, historical lake, or rent your own boat at the marina. National Geographic has called Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world! Don't miss the historical Lake Lure Inn opened in 1926!

Lake Lure sits in the heart of Hickory Nut Gorge and its picturesque setting offers numerous photo opportunities. East of Asheville, the crystal clear Rocky Broad River cascades its way in a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gap.

Historic downtown Hendersonville is just a twenty minute drive from the Hoot Owl. Hendersonville is located 22 miles south of Asheville, NC on a plateau with an altitude of 2200 feet above sea level. Explore the town and surrounding country with varied attractions, shopping, festivals, recreational activities, historical sites, golf courses, family activities, historic districts, a variety of accommodations and restaurants.

Wonderful Fall Visit
The most unique mountain property we've ever stayed at with the most peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed exploring the area around us and visiting local wineries and downtown Hendersonville. The weather was perfect and loved the hot tub! Beds were comfy and we had all the amenities we needed. Five stars, for sure! We had a wonderful time at the Hoot Owl Cabin and cannot wait to return!

It's like staying in a fancy treehouse!
We were in the area for a small party at the Burntshirt Vineyards, so my husband and I were there with fun and relaxation in mind. I thought a cabin would suit the nature of our trip rather than a hotel. And since there were just the two of us, we wanted something small and affordable. When you say "cabin" one thinks of wood floors, rustic furnishings and woods. This cabin is that but also very kin to a treehouse built into the side of a mountain. Once we climbed into it, it felt very private and cozy. The furnishings are whimsical with lots of crazy art, owls and furniture. Depends on your personality as how you take the decor - my husband (who's an accountant just rolled his eyes). I, who love the unexpected, appreciated all of the surprises in every room. We are in our 60s so saying there are steps was a little bit of an understatement. You'd better be pretty fit or pack really light luggage. We quickly figured out how to minimize our trips to the car for our stuff. Our dogs who are small had to be carried up and down the steps, so I got my workout with them also. The main bed is comfy but I'm short and had to get creative jumping up onto the tall mattress. (My husband did find humor in that.) The owner was very responsive and accommodating. My husband assumed the Golf channel can be found everywhere and quickly because "worked up" about it - she kindly added the channel to the TVs so he could track the PGA while there. Thanks again, Michelle, for that.

Nice Getaway
We enjoyed our stay at the Hoot Owl cabin! Our host was great in communicating with us before the stay. There was ample space for my husband, dog and myself. The location is quiet, secluded, but not far from the town of Hendersonville (20 minutes or less). The cabin is literally built on the side of a mountain! It was charming. We loved the owl-themed decor as well.

Cute, rustic cabin
I really liked this cabin, it would be perfect for a couples getaway! However it may be too rustic for young kids, we had our 3 year old and 8 month old with us and it was just a lot of keeping them contained, entertained, and out of trouble. And a lot of going up and down the stairs (both inside the cabin and out the front door) if you’re bringing the normal baby gear like a pack n play, etc. It is also a decent drive to get to nearby towns, definitely not a deal breaker, and it is in a pretty valley surrounded by other cabins, trailers, and cottages. Definitely need AWD to get up the driveway, otherwise there’s a parking spot at the bottom of the driveway. The hot tub was really nice out the back deck, we had great views of the stars out there! Good communication from the host, check in and out was easy.

5 Day Getaway
The cabin is an eclectic & cozy stay for a week. Most of our time was spent away from the cabin, but it's in a good location & the best part was sitting in the hot tub under the stars. The view from the big window out front was beautiful while drinking a hot cup of coffee & the fireplace warmed up the whole place in minutes. There were a few maintenance issues: There are a couple of bricks loose before you get to the wooden stairs. The faucets in the kitchen & the upstairs bathroom were not fastened to the counters. The kitchen sink is a good concept, but oddly shaped & doesn't drain properly, so there is standing water. Get in the before turning on the upstairs shower, or it sprays out. The shower head was also broken & sprays up the wall. While in the hot tub, it shut off 4 times, 2 of them while not running jets or bubbles. The breaker was not overheating or tripped, so not sure what the cause of the outage. We made sure that it was still running for the next few days, but we did not use the tub again after that. The 2x4s under the upstairs mattress is not fastened, some shifted and fell out from underneath while we were on it. We notified Michelle about the faucets and the hot tub as an fyi. We appreciate the promptness of her trying to fix the issues, but we had plans to not be home during the day. These items were expressed that they were not an emergency and would prefer for the handymen to not interrupt our stay. The push made us feel inconvenienced & uncomfortable.

Very rustic getaway
Overall, this place was as described. The photos seem to have been taken some time ago and it was a bit more “rustic” than the photos showed. We enjoyed the hot tub immensely and the privacy. The beds were cozy and it was centrally located to many sightseeing locations. Something to be aware of there is not a dishwasher and the sink, while GORGEOUS, was not very practical for washing dishes. We enjoyed the time away.

Home away from home
The Hootowl is a such a gem and unique place to stay. My family had so much fun from hanging out in the hot tub, cooking on the grill, hiking in the woods and just relaxing playing chess. I must say the bed was extremely comfortable....we slept so good. Waking up and looking out the window felt like you were in a treehouse. Our boys (15 & 10) can't wait to come back and neither can me and my hubby. Big thanks to Michelle for great communication and providing such an awesome home for our family to enjoy.

We had a great time at the Hoot Owl. We made it into Lake Lure twice and Asheville once. Everything was close enough to enjoy an afternoon out and about, but you still had the peace and quiet of the mountains when you went back to the house.

Off the beaten path
For those wanting to get away in a secluded area, this cabin’s for you. The cabin itself is cozy and has everything you need to relax and stay in. If your plans (as were ours) are more towards driving into Asheville, the wineries and surrounding areas, it’s a bit out of the way and the drive up to the cabin is very winding. My poor daughter kept getting a bit carsick. We adapted our schedule so that we would leave the cabin to go sightseeing and then return once we felt our day was complete. Worked out great!

Great Stay!
We loved the coziness of the Hoot Owl cottage. Each room had a comfortable spot to relax and unwind. We had perfect weather and we're able to sit out on the porch to enjoy the sunshine and breakfast outside. The hot tub was a perfect way to unwind. The trails around the house were great for our dog to wander a bit. Michelle is an excellent host! She kept us posted on things that were happening in the area which allowed us to locate great places to eat. Thank you for the opportunity to stay in the mountains and experience the spring beauty!
