Nestled in the heart of the picturesque village of Helmsdale, Tigh-na-Mara stands as a traditional yet modern two-bedroom cottage, offering a tranquil escape for those seeking relaxation in the Scottish Highlands. Whether you are looking to explore the local area, uncover local history, or simply just relax in the comfort of this home-away-from-home, Tigh-na-Mara is the perfect stay for everyone.

Helmsdale itself hosts a handful of cafes, restaurants and pubs where you are sure to find the friendly locals waiting to have a blether. The cafes and restaurants offer local cuisine usually including an array of seafood freshly brought in from the Helmsdale harbour. For those looking to make use of the kitchen space, there is also a small SPAR shop in the village, and deliveries from your larger supermarkets such as ASDA and Tesco can also be arranged.

Don't miss the opportunity for leisurely walks along the riverbanks, immersing yourself in the tranquil beauty of the Highland landscape.

In the village you will also find some small shops with a wide range of pieces from souvenirs, local area guides, and even pieces made by the locals. You can also find everything you need for fishing in Glencoast, and there are river and gold panning permits for sale there too.

For those keen on delving into the area's rich history, Timespan is a must-visit, offering insight into the Highland Clearances and the region's cultural heritage. Timespan has a fantastic museum with lots on display, and holds over 150 original historical photographs and 11,000 digital photographs in their archive. Not only do they have all this information, but if you think you have ancestors from the Highlands, Timespan also has a Genealogy service which can help you find out more about your ancestors!

Outdoor enthusiasts will find an abundance of activities at their doorstep, from fishing along the Helmsdale River to golfing on the nearby 9-hole golf course. Hiking trails beckon, promising breathtaking views and the promise of needing a long nap after all the walking.

Venture further afield to discover the stunning coastal scenery, where miles of unspoiled beaches and rugged cliffs await exploration. Whether seeking relaxation or adventure, Helmsdale and its surrounding areas promise an unforgettable Highland experience for all who visit.

Tigh-na-Mara is located just off the A9 making it the ideal place for someone to stay if they are using Public Transport upon arrival or departure. The property is also very well lit at night due to the surrounding street lights.

Tigh-na-Mara does not have allocated parking spots, however, there is free on-street parking available down Dunrobin Street and down by the Helmsdale harbour. Please note that parking is limited and used by the public. There is usually no issue with parking space, however, availability is not 100% guaranteed.

Perfectly positioned for exploring the wonders of Sutherland and beyond, this charming abode presents itself in immaculate condition, promising a retreat filled with comfort and adventure.

Step into the welcoming lounge, where comfortable furnishings and a Freeview Smart TV to entertain after a long day. The lounge also holds a variety of games and books available for guest use.
The kitchen and dining area are fully equipped with all the essentials that you should need throughout your stay. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, fridge & freezer, and so much more!

In the utility room you also have a dishwasher and a washing machine for your convenience.

As the evening descends, retire to the cosy confines of the master bedroom, where a snug king sized bed promises a good nights sleep. The second bedroom offers the flexibility of two single beds, ideal for families or friends seeking their own space. The bathroom is also located on the first floor with a bath and shower.

Beyond the cottage walls, there is a private enclosed garden to the rear. Here, amidst the fresh Highland air, unwind on the patio with a morning coffee, and come dusk, the garden will invite al fresco dining or quiet contemplation under the Scottish night sky.

When travelling to Tigh-na-Mara, we highly recommend researching your public transport routes or ensuring that guests have access to a car.

Unfortunately, Helmsdale does not have access to apps such as Lyft or Uber, and our only modes of public transport are Bus (Stagecoach), Train (Scotrail), and the occasional private hire Taxi company.
