Swimming and bathing in the lake is allowed and is extra fun in healthy moor water. The focal point is the artificial, 35,000 square meter bathing island in Steinhude in the south with a sandy beach and sunbathing areas. The guarded bathing beach "White Dune" on the north shore in Mardorf lures. The surf beach is also nearby. Travel by train from Hannover Hbf with the Regionalexpress or with the S-Bahn to Wunstorf or Neustadt am Rübenberge in approx. 20 minutes and from there with bus lines 710/711 or 715 to Steinhude. In summer there is also an hourly bicycle bus (line 835) from Wunstdorf to Mardorf, Steinhude or Hagenburg.
