Family Paradise w/ Historic Log Cabin | Hot Tub, Games & Arcade, Full Kitchen

Summary:
Escape to Lonesome Flats, a private 3-acre retreat blending history with modern comforts. This spacious 6-bedroom, 4-bath cabin features a brand new hot tub, fireplaces, game room, yard games, and a 75” TV for ultimate relaxation. Gather in the Great Room, enjoy outdoor dining on the porch, or unwind by the fire pit under the stars. Just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, and top wineries, it’s the perfect getaway for families, groups, and adventure seekers alike.

The Space:
Welcome to Lonesome Flats, where history meets modern comfort in a home designed for gathering, relaxing, and reconnecting. From the moment you arrive, you’ll step into a spacious family kitchen—the heart of the home—fully equipped for cooking, baking, and entertaining. With high-quality appliances, ample dinnerware, and everything you need to prepare and share meals, it’s the perfect space to bring everyone together. The adjacent dining area, bathed in natural light, offers a scenic countryside view.

Step into the inviting Great Room, a cozy retreat where modern luxury meets rustic charm. A custom-built mantle frames the 70” electric fireplace, while a 75” TV creates a theater-like movie experience for winding down after a day of adventure. This space seamlessly blends the old with the new, showcasing the original exterior of the 1789 log cabin—a testament to the property’s rich history. Inside the cabin, a custom-built game table invites you to challenge family and friends, while the cozy sitting loft upstairs is perfect for curling up with a glass of wine or your favorite book. In cooler months, the propane fireplace keeps the cabin warm and inviting—just be sure to close the door when not in use!

On the other side of the home, the primary suite offers a king-sized bed and en-suite bathroom, creating a peaceful retreat at the end of the day. Upstairs, the Red, Green, and Blue Bedrooms each feature a king or queen bed along with a desk and chair—perfect for blending work and leisure. Downstairs, the entertainment-packed basement features another king bed, two twin beds, and oversized games like Connect Four and Jenga. You’ll also find additional workspace options, making it easy to stay connected when needed. For added convenience, many of the bedrooms come equipped with their own TVs.

Outdoor Adventures & Backyard Fun

Step outside through the Great Room and into the expansive backyard, an ideal setting for relaxing in any season. Follow the stone path to the hot tub for a soothing soak under the stars, or gather around the fire pit for s’mores and storytelling. The porch, complete with hanging chairs, a grill, and comfortable seating, makes outdoor dining a breeze. For friendly competition, grab the bocce ball set, cornhole boards, or test your aim with the axe-throwing game—all set against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Local Adventures Await

Lonesome Flats is perfectly positioned for exploring the best of Shenandoah’s scenic beauty. Just a short drive away, you’ll find endless opportunities for hiking, river excursions, and wine tastings at top vineyards like Chester Gap Cellars, Rappahannock Cellars, Crimson Lane Vineyards, and Fox Meadow Winery. Our detailed property guide, provided after booking, includes even more recommendations to help you plan the perfect stay.

For dining, head to Main Street in Front Royal, just 15 minutes away, for great local eats like Vibrissa Beer & Kitchen and Main Street Mill. And don’t forget to grab a sweet treat at C&C Treats! Closer to the cabin, Henry’s Grocery, just 5 minutes away, is perfect for last-minute essentials and quick grab-and-go options.

For outdoor adventures, check out Front Royal Outdoors for river activities, or take a scenic drive along Skyline Drive for breathtaking views of Shenandoah National Park. A visit to Skyline Caverns is another great family-friendly experience to round out your trip.

Whether you’re here to explore or simply unwind in a place filled with warmth and history, Lonesome Flats offers a truly unforgettable retreat—any time of year.

PETS
We love hosting your furry companions and welcome up to three dogs. Please include them in your reservation and a pet fee will automatically be included in your reservation total. Additional dogs may be considered on a case-by-case basis and are subject to additional fees to compensate for potential extra wear and tear at the property and additional cleaning regimens that we undertake. Note that emotional support animals (ESAs) are designated as pets and subject to these fees and other pet policies. Service animals are always welcome, but please let us know about them in advance so we can let our cleaning team know.

FAMILY FRIENDLY AMENITIES
We offer two pack n'play cribs and two full-sized freestanding highchair for families traveling with young ones. Additional pack n' plays and/or high chairs may be available with advance notice.

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
The property is served by a well cared for gravel road and driveway of about 500 feet. Most of the year, 2WD vehicles can access the property without issue. However, during snow or icy conditions, 4WD or AWD may be recommended or required. We will notify you in advance if winter or severe weather is expected, offering guidance on safe access. Full refunds are typically only provided if the property is inaccessible for more than 24 hours by 4WD or AWD vehicles.

GUEST SAFETY & WELLNESS
Your safety and well-being are our top priority. All bedding, including sheets, quilts, and blankets, is washed between reservations. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed in all bedrooms, and fire extinguishers are available throughout the property.

The area is surrounded by wildlife - you will regularly see deer and may even sneak a peak at a black bear hanging out on the mountain. While the property rarely houses critters of its own, the occasional bug or tiny creature may make a visit! Just let us know if anything is out of the ordinary.

Our road serves only four homes and unpaved for about 300 feet prior to your arrival. As such, we recommend 4WD or AWD when snow is expected or present. In the spring and summer months, lots of turtles and other wildlife cross the road often, so please proceed slowly!

Comfortable Gathering Place for Family Reunion
Our group of family members, all seniors living in different states, chose this place to gather for our annual get together when we learned our Washington State sibling was going to attend the national sheepdog finals at nearby Belle Grove. Matt is the best when it comes to communication ... he is fast, detailed, and pleasant to work with. Not that we needed much, the property was very well set up for hosting. The home had a very well stocked kitchen (almost more pots and pans than you could count), a good island, and a large table that accommodated all of us easily. We cooked at home multiple times and it worked well. A "must" for us is gathering spaces and we had that in the large "great room" as well as a large porch in front and another in back, perfect to different times of day. On this trip we didn't take advantage of the several game rooms, hot tub, and fire pit but nice to have the options. There were full baths on each floor, two on the main floor; our ideal house would be everything on one floor (just about everyone has bad knees at this stage in our lives) but few of those exist and we made this work for us. You are definitely in the country, but close enough to Front Royal and Strasburg for shopping, restaurants, and things to do (beyond going to the dogs). Highly recommend!

Character and comfort
This home had a lot of character and charm that also offered convenience and comfort. Plenty of space yet cozy, activities indoors and out to include tables games, fire pit and hot tub, remote feeling but only a few miles from town and, hospitality which met us with a basket of snacks, coffee pods, hot chocolate and creamer along with other amenities that made it a “must come back”! I would definitely recommend this property for any occasion.

Graduation family fun
The house looked exactly as it did on-line. The beds were so very comfortable. Every single part of the property felt like home. Every person that stayed was comfortable and accommodated. The children were able to be kids and have fun and the adults had their own fun too. The old house is such a neat part of the property, as well. It was integrated into the house perfectly. Any time I ever had a question I would simply ask the owner and he would respond back immediately. This house is very close to town, but yet secluded away from the world enough that you felt like one with nature. I actually live close by, but was unable to accommodate everyone. Rather than have everyone stay in separate hotels I decided to rent a place. I'm so glad I chose this place!! I will be sure to refer people as well as use this home owner for any other get aways we will need in the future.
