Airports in Finland
Once you've booked your flight to Finland, you'll want to organise transport once you arrive. Finland has a well-connected airport network, and the two largest airports are in Helsinki and Oulu. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is located approximately 17km north of the city centre, and serves the city and surrounding area on Route 45. Oulu airport, 15km south-west of Oulu city centre, serves the north of Finland on Routes 815 and 847.
Transportation from the airports
If you are flying into Helsinki, there are good bus links into the city centre which take approximately 35 minutes. The Finnair City Bus runs from Helsinki city centre, and route 615 will also take you to the airport. Taxis from the airport to the city centre take about 30 minutes and cost 45 to 50 euros. For visitors flying into Oulu, the number 19 bus runs a dedicated airport-city centre route and takes about 30 minutes. Taxis cost between 35 and 40 euros and journey time is approximately 30 minutes. Rental cars are available at both airports.
Weather in Finland
Despite being quite so far north, Finland's climate is not as harsh as you might think owing to the warm air blown in by the Gulf Stream. The climate differs from the north to the south, with the north typically being colder with more snow in the winter months (October/November-April). Summer in southern Finland starts in late May and ends in late September, although in Lapland, the northernmost area of Finland, summer starts a month later and ends a month earlier. The temperature ranges between 20˚C and 30˚C in the summer and can drop to -20˚C in the winter, although average winter temperatures in Helsinki are around -5˚C.
Highlights of Finland
Finland is a land of contrasts. It has constant, or polar, night during the winter, and days where the sun never sets in summer. The country's stunning, unspoilt beauty makes it a must-see for travellers wanting to do something a little bit different. Helsinki was the World Design Capital in 2012, and you can see why when you visit - its beautiful architecture makes it a delight to discover. Southern Finland is good to visit any time of year, but for that really special Lapland trip, the only time to go is in winter. This is a magical time in the Arctic Circle and the sparkle and shimmer of the snow will make your holiday unforgettable. Finland is a fascinating country which has something to offer everyone who comes here, whether in winter or summer. With ebookers, you can book your flights to Finland and plan your trip in advance and make everything is booked for when you arrive.
