About this property

The Japandi Dome

Experience a taste of Japandi in this dome home, and enjoy the mind and body benefits of being closer to nature with the comforts of indoor amenities. This unique space is built with a full skylight to allow you to sleep under the night sky. Complete with heating and A/C for year-round comfort, a full zen-inspired bathroom, and luxury European bedding. Enjoy your meal around a Japanese inspired floor table with straw mats and meditation cushion for seating.

The Space:
Perfect for any occasion - birthdays, anniversaries, solo retreats, and more! Each detail has been thoughtfully curated to bring you a peaceful getaway; we hope you will enjoy every moment of your time spent here.

This 415 sq/ft space includes: Mini-split A/C system, Kitchenette with basic preparation accessories (cutting board, knives, utensils), complementary Nespresso coffee and tea bar, glassware and a set of handmade pottery bowls, plates, and mugs, 3.1 c/f fridge and freezer, microwave, shower, shower essentials and spa extras, towels and bedding.

Purified Air System - Coway Airmega unit that all circulated air passes through - removing airborne viruses, bacteria, and mold, and VOC's.

Outdoor lounging area with natural stone firepit and adirondack chairs. Plan to bring wood if you desire to use the fire pit; you are also welcome to collect any available wood on our property.

Privacy Note: The dome includes full-length curtains for privacy during your stay. Please be aware, this dome is located in a rural countryside neighborhood; if curtains are fully opened, you WILL see a neighbor's home across the meadow. While our home shares the 1.5 acre property, this is our only dome site and you will quickly feel at peace when you arrive. Dome also includes a large skylight so you can take in the trees and sky view above regardless of curtains being open or closed.

Say hi to our friendly roaming chickens!

Guest Access:
We send a code to each guest on the day of arrival, and will send additional check-in details about the Japandi Dome. Guests may check in anytime after 4pm. We will have a private driveway dedicated to your parking.

We live onsite within the main house, and will be accessible most times to offer support as needed during your stay. A message or call to us work best, and we'll try to respond as soon as possible!

Things to Note:
Our space is geared primarily as a couples stay and a tranquil retreat for individuals. We love kiddos and pets, but our property features were not designed to accommodate them, so we cannot allow either children or pets for overnight stays at this time. Thank you for understanding this.

Guests should have no problem getting cell phone coverage with providers within the dome due to full wifi coverage, but signal may be spotty outside of this space (AT&T seems to have the best coverage overall in this area regardless of wifi connection).

The Surrounding Area:
We are nestled in a beautiful rural neighborhood close to Hillsborough, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Located 15 minutes from Downtown Hillsborough and the lively 9th St of Durham, and 17 minutes to downtown Durham, there is not a shortage of options in the area. If looking for beautiful trails, go no further than the Eno River 7 minutes away.

Inspiration behind the Design:
Japandi, known for its natural fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design, includes the use of organic materials, natural light, and a beautiful but functional interior to create a calming and cozy space. The Japanese element is influenced by “wabi-sabi”, a concept of embracing imperfection and impermanence. The Scandinavian element incorporates “hygge” (pronounced hyoo guh), which brings in the element of coziness, well-being, and contentment with loved ones.

We hope for our dome to be a rejuvenating space for couples and individuals, to awaken the spirit, and to help one reconnect with the natural world and one another.
During your stay at this guesthouse, you'll be close to Waller Family Farm.

My husband and I were in town overnight for a wedding and this was the perfect space for us to spend time together and decompress after celebrating. We will be back and will be recommending this place to friends.

Sanity restored
If you want to reset, de-stress and regroup, this is the place to do it. Marina and Gene thought of everything! I only wished I stayed longer. One of the BEST experiences I've ever had. One thing to note, the area has a lot of deer, so take caution when driving at night. I loved seeing several family pods of deer each day, driving the main road out. Highly recommend!!

So much more than an awesome dome. More like a retreat. The attention to detail in design and extras was abundant. Marina was always quick to respond and help make my stay as enjoyable as possible.

Beautiful
For a business trip in the area, the dome was perfect. The *details and creativity added by the owner made the interior feel like a retreat, or mini-spa escape in Japan. Truly wonderful, even the Japanese board game. ;-) The Beautiful Eno River trails were close by to enjoy before dark. While located in the backyard, the owners were discreet and the curtains on the dome front provided an extra sense of privacy. The heating provided kept us cozy in the chill of Dec. There was the sound of the train occasionally, but in the distance and not obtrusive or disruptive to sleep. And I enjoyed the soft chatter of the free roam chickens from time to time. The dome is peaceful, elegant, comfortable...perfect for our short stay.

Magical little getaway
I can’t say enough good things about the Japandi dome. I needed to get out of the house to do a goal setting workshop for my business and I decided to take an extra day for rest and relaxation. This was the most perfect little retreat! Mariana thought of every detail and has exquisite taste. From the tea and coffee selection, the homemade scones, eye masks, luxurious products, the heated toilet seat to the cozy bed, it was truly a beautiful place to unwind. I highly recommend anyone take time to stay at the dome. I’ll be back for sure!

Wow, What a Wonderful Getaway!
My Wife and I were in town for the day celebrating our anniversary and we wish we could have stayed longer. Everything was immaculate, cozy, and well thought out. We loved the unique design and all the personal touches (they even remembered that it was our anniversary!). I will definitely be returning again and if you get the opportunity, I would DEFINITELY recommend checking it out.

My husband and I stayed at the Japandi Dome to relax and unwind, and found everything about the experience to be perfect. The dome itself is unique, allowing for expansive sky and pastoral field views, and we loved sitting around the fire pit out back. The inside of the dome is furnished to be comfortable yet elegant and restorative. The owners are friendly and responsive....thank you for a lovely experience :)

Bubble of Joy
I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this property and our weekend getaway. The thoughtfulness/intention/aesthetic of the property and dome is enjoyed both visually and spiritually. Spending time in the dome itself is incredibly peaceful yet you are not far or short on fun activities/events to access. The property managers are close by, respect your privacy, and also available for any questions/concerns/or if you just want some recommendations. I can’t wait to visit again!
