Charming getaway.
Hotel Julien is simply lovely, located in the beautiful old river-town of Dubuque, Iowa. The hotel has old world charm, reasonable prices, clean, specious rooms and an excellent adjoining restaurant.

The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas! We also loved hanging out with our friends around the cozy fireplace in the lobby. This hotel exceeded our expectations!

We have stayed at this historic hotel twice. It's a beautiful classic hotel. The last time was disappointing. The problem is the staff (or management) not the property itself. The gentleman at the front desk was more interested in gabbing with a coworker than helping us. He gave us coupons that could not be used during our stay. A free drink for the lounge that wasn't opened. Anyone with customer service skills would not have done so. Our breakfast the next morning at the restaurant was underwhelming regarding the food. I ordered the breakfast panini that was cold bread and really nothing inside. The waitress spent her time in the back and not attentive. We were the only customers. We have never had such poor service at a hotel and restaurant. We will not be back.

Lovely Boutique Hotel
I grew up in Dubuque and have always wanted to stay at The Hotel Julien! It did not disappoint😊. Clean and well appointed room that has recently been renovated (bathroom just needs a fresh wallpaper design or paint). Pool/hot tub was clean and relaxing.

A very well restored and maintained historic building. Room amenities are as described, nice hotel. The check-in process was seamless and close, on-site parking was a perk too. Nice selection of dining options within a walkable distance, and hotel lounge had a really cool vibe.

Perfectly lovely
Our room was great. The front desk staff was absolutely fabulous. The bathroom door stuck and was hard to open when we first arrived. So we didn't shut it entirely throughout our stay. No big deal but it wouldn't hurt to get that fixed. The staff helped me figure it out. (My wife wrote this review because I don't care about reviews.)
