Nice except for room 14
Nice hotel and lovely staff but we had booked a superior room and got room 14. This was unfortunately right over the kitchen so the kitchen fan noise was loud until 11pm then started again at 6.50am. We totally get that this is necessary to run the kitchen but this should be warned at time of booking and not be charged as a superior room.

The Pheasant is off the beaten track and in a lovely quiet spot! It was in a nice but quite isolated area, so driving to places is a must. The bar area is nice and rooms are comfortable, however cleaning needs to be attended to as we had the previous guest’s litter in the bathroom bin, and coffee spills down the wall in the main room. Beds very comfortable and amenities were good-ironing board and hairdryer, plus soap and shampoo etc. Only downside was it was a hot day and evening and the towel rail in the bathroom was on, so the room was so hot! No way to turn this off unfortunately. Room had a fan, but it was FULL of dust. Staff were pleasant enough, but it felt a bit ‘scatty’ and understaffed, and in the middle of doing something, they would start talking to eachother and their attention would get drawn away from what they were initially doing. Food was nice but very overpriced. Best bit was the breakfast as there was loads out and a good variety to choose from Overall a pleasant stay, but a few areas need looked at

It was OK, but you should think more ‘pub’ than ‘hotel’. I have eaten here several times, including before the major refurbishment of a few years ago, and the food offering and service seems to have gone down in recent months. The staff were not as ‘on it’ as previously (for example, starter and main course arriving at the same time) and apart from the nice breakfast, the food wasn’t very exciting or of great quality. This was my first overnight stay and the room was OK.

This an old coaching Inn that we found just by chance. The accommodation and food is excellent an is extremely dog friendly. Highly reccommended.

Disappointing experience for the room cost
Disappointed in general. We were staying at the hotel for a wedding nearby. We did enquire about checking in an hour earlier due to the timing of the wedding but was advised there’d be a £25 charge. We subsequently checked in after the wedding at about 4pm and then arrived back at the hotel at just after 11pm to be told we couldn’t get a drink from the bar, unusual when you’re a resident in a hotel. In the morning checkout was 10.30 so we felt the value and service wasn’t great. The staff at breakfast were not particularly interested and it felt like we were just in the way of them doing their jobs. We stay in a few hotels and this is our opinion based on comparison and experience. I think more is needed to offer value for money.
