We had a fantastic time. You don't go to the Lakes for the weather and we didn't get it despite apparently the rest of the country being fine and sunny. However, this didn't take away from the Lakes in autumn splendour. We made the most of the day we left which was beautiful by driving down through the rest of the Lakes and we're glad we saw it in sun as well.
There are plenty of walks on the doorstep of this apartment though we tended to make a short drive and then walk - Loweswater and Buttermere. Both very lovely and some great hills to climb for the views around when the mist clears. Keswick close by too but Cockermouth is an interesting town. Particularly recommend a good browse of the book shop and excellent coffees and lunches in their cafe. Also scones down at Squirrels' Nest tea shop by the garden centre on the way into Cockermouth we agreed were the best we've ever had. Plus the bonus of watching a red squirrel stocking up for the winter outside the window
This apartment was perfect - very clean, well equipped and comfortable and a good size. We spent half of the week as four adults staying and the other half as two and there was plenty of space whichever were there. After a week, I was beginning to miss a bedroom window I could look out of (plenty of high veluxes) but the view from the living area is lovely and for miles. Loved sitting watching the birds who were feeding right up at the window. We would definitely return as it was so lovely and perfectly situated. A quieter part of the Lakes away from the worst of the holiday crowds. We slept like logs. Must have been the peace and quiet and the comfortable beds! Ray and Margaret are excellent hosts and gave us a lovely welcome. Thank you
