It's Nice...
The Green Bird was just fine. We as a society seem to gravitate to large corporate chains when there are perfectly lovely "little guy" motels available. I personally like being able to back up to the door to get my things inside, rather than dragging my stuff on a cart and fighting an elevator.

Room 109 had a terrible smoke smell that was intense. We were so exhausted from our road trip that I didn't complain ... just went to sleep. I should have returned to the front desk. I have no idea if the other rooms were smoky. :(

This wasn't the worse place we have stayed but I probably wouldn't stay here again. The best part was a little stray cat that I fed a lot of fried chicken.

When I got to the site I thought a motel, not what I wanted be for the price, ok. The front of the motel was nice looking but the back was a bit sketchy, but still ok. The door open easily and I thought well it’s an old motel. The room was clean enough, but there were a couple of flies. They put a lot of information about personal safety, but the door locked from the inside fine and I my stay was only overnight. I did however, feel the need to take all my stuff when I left for the evening. The point where I will warn people not to go to the Green Bird Inn located in Vernon, Texas is they know their doors do not lock from the outside. When I complained they were ready with an answer and no concern for a female solo traveler. Anyone could have come into my room while I was gone. It was 11pm when I found this out and was unable to make other arrangements so I had a difficult night sleep fully clothed. Never again and I will warn all review sites.

The freeway noise was pretty loud. The Expedia app listed a continental breakfast when I chose a room, but not in the general description and there was no continental breakfast so misleading. There was no hot water to shower one morning.

We expected chaos as we were staying during "eclipse" weekend. Instead, our room was quiet and clean on the side away from the highway. The beds were comfortable and all three of us slept well. I was thrilled to be assigned to a "non-smoking" room! I had no idea that in 2024 smoking in hotel/motel rooms was even still allowed. Smoking in public spaces has been banned in my state for nearly 20 years! I would not have been able to sleep in a smoker's room and would have ended up "sleeping" in the car. Be advised to request non-smoking if that is important to you. I don't recall seeing any information stating that detail when I reserved the room on Expedia.
