Room was nice and clean. Bed comfortable. Roof top bar was a bonus. Lobby was a bit trashy on Sunday morning. Getting an early check in or late check out was difficult. Everything seemed to be electronic. Miss the personal touch.

Great spot in a very nice little town
Great spot, decently priced. Easy walk to the pedestrian mall with lots of options. Also dinning options available at the hotel and very nearby. Loved the rooftop bar. We parked on the street, free during our stay and easier with our motorcycle - valet cannot handle.

I liked absolutely nothing about the hotel. No staff, virtual checkin was a nightmare. Restaurant closed, no housekeeping, bar did not have any stock. Nothing positive to say.

Fantastic location, very clean, convenient to all of the downtown Charlottesville attractions. The valet parking is easy. The contact-free check in and check out and overall digital experience takes some getting used to - there are pros and cons to that I guess, but it isn't my favorite and I miss having more staff to lean on for assistance. The in-room coffee is terrible, but the cafe has delicious coffee and coffee drinks for purchase.

No late check out
Not allowing late check out two stays in a row doesn’t make me too happy. We’ve stayed there 3 times within 2 months and have needed late check out our last two times and not been allowed to do so. The past 2 stays, our room has had what appears to be dead bugs in the bathroom. Otherwise we enjoy our stay.

Room didn’t have a hair dryer, and after notifying staff, they replied”IF” they could get one for me. I waited 15-20 minutes, and never got one so I just left with wet hair. Shower needs grab bars and perhaps a ledge low enough for foot up to shave legs. Also, a pen would be a nice addition, as well as directions for how to work the darned TV. I’m old and prefer to read things on paper instead of having to click, click, click and try to find directions on my phone. Valet men very polite.

Transition pains?
This is a beautiful hotel and my room was great, however because they are transitioning to a new owner or brand there were some frustrating issues. For one, it switched to an all digital front desk and the app/site to access guest resources was broken for the majority of my stay. Texting didn’t always resolve my issues and there was a delay at times. Also, the automated blinds in my room were not working very well and I couldn’t sync the blackout shades to all be down at the same time. Also, they refused my late checkout request despite there still being rooms available in the hotel (I was able to pretended to book the same class of room). They wouldn’t take my request despite asking before and during my stay. Thankfully there was a person on site I could ask questions of in the lobby, but the best they could do was refer me to the app for any questions. I’m hopeful these issues are just transitional pains, but I will think twice before booking a hotel that has a virtual check-in and no active housekeeping unless requested. (I saw leftover food container left in front of another door in the hallway for two full days). On the plus side, valet, the coffee shop and lobby bar were all fabulous!

We did not stay at the Doyle. We had to leave because the parking area was not ADA compliant, there was no handicap parking. We were told to walk a block away and park in an unlit unsafe area beside a railroad track. Not only could we not walk that distance, but the area was also not safe to leave our car in. It was not lit and only one car there. They said they had valet parking, but there was no one there. We tried to call the number given but no one would answer. They texted us and told us to cancel through Expedia, we tried to do that but could not do so through the online site. This was a horrible visit.
