My wife and I were excited to celebrate our 51st Anniversary in Charleston. Our sons had given us a gift card to Hotels.com so we booked a room at the Palmetto Hotel in downtown Charleston. The gift card did not nearly cover room costs because it was very expensive per night but we trusted Hotels.com in providing a nice size room in a quality hotel. We could not have been more disappointed! You hardly had room to walk on each side of the bed and there was a small sofa at the end. There was a small chifforobe with just enough room to hang a few clothes but no drawers to put anything. I had to ask for two stands so we would have a place to put our suitcases. Even though the ice machine was right next to our room, I had to ask twice for an Ice Bucket. There was no Microwave and to refrigerator and no Coffee Maker. When you cut the heat on it fogged up the bathroom mirror and there was mold growing around the bathroom vent. The lighting in the bathroom was horrible. I could hardly see how to shave. Even the small shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower didn't work very well. The valet gave us bad advice on a very good restaurant when we arrived and they were about 45 minutes late bringing our vehicle when we checked out. They did refund us our Valet charges because of that but even though I complained to the hotel and Hotels.com I was given only a small token refund. I can't believe Hotels.com would charge that amount for such a poor room. We would neve stay there again!

Very average to below average property for the price. Location was incredibly walkable and close to a lot of local attractions and restaurants, which was the biggest plus. Check-in was a pain, room carpeting was very stained, curtain falling off the track, loud staff and guests early in the morning, HVAC initially wasn't working (maintenance fixed upon complaint). Their systems weren't working at checkout either. Management did come up to check that A/C was working on Day 2 and offered a round of drinks for our troubles, which was a nice gesture.

Great property. Recently updated & still seems to be working out a few kinks, but the staff was super attentive and fixed everything promptly. Rooms are a bit cramped, but with nice amenities. A bit "too" much furniture in them, but with a little rearranging you can make it work. Lovely lounge, fresh continental breakfast and friendly bartenders. The espresso martini IS, in fact, all it's cracked up to be.

Classy hotel
We liked everything about the Palmetto: nice decor, friendly staff, comfortable and clean room, yummy complimentary drink and chocolate, and excellent breakfast options. We had dinner at the Ferry Landing, which was an easy minute walk toward the water. Will definitely consider staying here again.
